The 1986 South American Under-16 Football Championship (Spanish : Campeonato Sudamericano Sub-16 Peru 1986, Brazilian Portuguese : Campeonato Sul-Americano Sub-16 Peru 1986) was the 2nd edition of the South American Under-17 Football Championship, a football competition for the under-16 national teams in South America organized by CONMEBOL. It was held in Peru from 4 to 19 October 1986. [1]
Bolivia were crowned champions, and together with Brazil and Ecuador, which were the top three teams of this tournament, qualified for the 1987 FIFA U-16 World Championship in Canada.
All games were played in Lima at the Estadio Nacional.

The tournament exclusively requires players to be born between 1 January 2006 and 31 December 2008 to be eligible, that is, they must be a maximum of 17 years old and at least 15 years old.

The ten national teams involved in the tournament were required to register a squad of a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 22 players, including at least two goalkeepers. Only players in these squads are eligible to take part in the competition. The tournament exclusively requires players to be born on or after 1 January 2008 to be eligible, i.e. they must be a maximum of 16 years old by the end of the calendar year in which the competition is played, with no minimum age limit.
