Andrzej Gwiazda is an engineer and prominent opposition leader, who participated in Polish March 1968 Events and December 1970 Events; one of the founders of Free Trade Unions, Member of the Presiding Committee of the Strike at Lenin Shipyard in Gdańsk in August 1980, Vice President of the Founding Committee of Solidarity, then Vice President of Solidarity in 1980 and 1981; in December 1981 interned and next imprisoned with six other Solidarność leaders. His wife, Joanna Duda-Gwiazda also was a prominent member of the anticommunist opposition in the 1970s and 1980s.

He provided voice for movies dubbed in Polish including Lady and the Tramp, Ice Age, Astérix & Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre, Shark Tale and for Pink Panther in various computer games. His brother Radosław Pazura is also an actor.

Japonica Polonica Fantastica, also known as JPF, is the oldest Polish manga publisher, founded in 1996 in Olecko. The first titles were translated by JPF's founder, Shin Yasuda. At the end of 1998, Rafał "Kabura" Rzepka took over the role of translator. In 2006 the publishing house moved to Mierzyn near Szczecin, Poland. Currently, translators: Paweł Dybała, Michał Żmijewski, Urszula Knap and Monika Nowicka are responsible for translating manga.

<i>The Silent Star</i> 1960 film

Milcząca Gwiazda, literal English translation The Silent Star, is a 1960 East German/Polish color science fiction film based on the 1951 science fiction novel The Astronauts by Polish science fiction writer Stanisław Lem. It was directed by Kurt Maetzig, and stars Günther Simon, Julius Ongewe and Yoko Tani. The film was first released by Progress Film in East Germany, running 93 min. Variously dubbed and cut versions were also released in English under other titles: First Spaceship on Venus, Planet of the Dead, and Spaceship Venus Does Not Reply.

Gwiazda, also known as The Polish Weekly-"Star" and Gwiazda Wolnosci, was a Polish language weekly published by Stanislaw Walczak in Holyoke,Massachusetts from 1923 to 1953, after which it was called The Star and published in English from 1953 until 1956. It was Holyoke's first and longest running Polish newspaper.

Kazimierz Kowalski was a Polish operatic bass and opera manager at the Grand Theatre, Łódź, and a radio and television presenter. He founded an opera and operetta festival in the spa town Ciechocinek in 1998, and also the Polish Chamber Opera.
