The Eurovision Song Contest 2002 was the 47th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Tallinn, Estonia, following the country's victory at the 2001 contest with the song "Everybody" by Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2XL. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Eesti Televisioon (ETV), the contest was held at the Saku Suurhall, with the final on 25 May 2002. The live show was presented by Estonian opera singer Annely Peebo and actor Marko Matvere.
The United Kingdom competed at the Eurovision Song Contest 2002, represented by Jessica Garlick with the song "Come Back".
Estonia attempted to enter the Eurovision Song Contest 1993, the first time the country tried to enter the Eurovision Song Contest. However, as Estonia was one of seven countries who wished to join the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 1993, a pre-selection was held for the first time to reduce this number to three countries who would compete in the final of the Contest in May, held in Millstreet, Ireland.
Estonia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 with the song "Eighties Coming Back" written by Vaiko Eplik. The song was performed by the band Ruffus. The Estonian broadcaster Eesti Televisioon (ETV) organised the national final Eurolaul 2003 in order to select the Estonian entry for the 2003 contest in Riga, Latvia. Ten songs competed in the national final and "Eighties Coming Back" performed by Claire's Birthday was selected as the winner by an international jury panel. The band was later renamed as Ruffus for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Evelin Samuel is an Estonian singer, songwriter, musical theater performer, author of children's books and participant in the Eurovision Song Contest.
"Tell Me Why" is a song recorded by Romanian singers Monica Anghel and Marcel Pavel. It was recorded at the Midi Sound Studio in Bucharest, and was released as a CD single in 2002 by Transglobal EMI. A ballad, "Tell Me Why" was written by Mirela Fugaru and produced by Ionel Tudor, containing a saxophone, guitar and keyboards in its instrumentation. The track represented Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 in Tallinn, Estonia after winning the pre-selection show Selecția Națională. In Tallinn, the artists were automatically qualified to the grand final, where they finished in ninth place with 71 points. This remained Romania's best result until 2005 and qualified the country for the contest's next edition.
Croatia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 with the song "Everything I Want" written by Milana Vlaović. The song was performed by Vesna Pisarović. Croatian broadcaster Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) organised the national final Dora 2002 in order to select the Croatian entry for the 2002 contest in Tallinn, Estonia. The national final took place on 10 March 2002. Twenty songs competed and a combination of votes from five regional juries, an expert jury, regional televoting and internet voting selected "Sasvim sigurna" performed by Vesna Pisarović as the winner. The song was later translated from Croatian to English for the Eurovision Song Contest and was titled "Everything I Want".
Switzerland entered the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 with Francine Jordi and the song "Dans le jardin de mon âme". They were returning to the contest after being relegated from the 2001 contest after Jane Bogaert with "La vita cos'e" came 20th.
Denmark was represented by Malene Mortensen with the song "Tell Me Who You Are" in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 in Tallinn, Estonia.

Ten songs competed in the national final and the winner was selected over two rounds of public voting. In the first round, the top three were selected to qualify to the superfinal. In the superfinal, "Leto svet" performed by Kreisiraadio was selected as the winner.

The Estonian broadcaster Eesti Rahvusringhääling (ERR) organised the national final Eesti Laul 2009 in order to select the Estonian entry for the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia. Ten songs competed in the national final and the winner was selected over two rounds of voting. In the first round, a jury panel and a public vote selected the top two to qualify to the superfinal. In the superfinal, "Rändajad" performed by Urban Symphony was selected as the winner entirely by a public vote.
Russia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 in Tallinn, Estonia. The Russian entry was selected internally by the Russian broadcaster Russian Public Television (ORT). Prime Minister represented Russia with the song "Northern Girl", which placed 10th and scored 55 points at the contest.
Malta competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 in Tallinn, Estonia. The Maltese entry was selected through the Malta Song for Europe contest, where the winner was Ira Losco with the song "7th Wonder", written by Philip Vella and Gerard James Borg.
