Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup 2002–03 is the 25th staging of this two-leg competition between Hong Kong and Guangdong.
Hong Kong, officially the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, is a special administrative region on the eastern side of the Pearl River estuary in southern China. The first leg was played in Guangzhou while the second leg was played in Hong Kong.
Guangzhou, also known as Canton, is the capital and most populous city of the province of Guangdong in southern China. On the Pearl River about 120 km (75 mi) north-northwest of Hong Kong and 145 km (90 mi) north of Macau, Guangzhou has a history of over 2,200 years and was a major terminus of the maritime Silk Road, and continues to serve as a major port and transportation hub, as well as one of China's three largest cities.
Guangzhou captured the champion by winning an aggregate 4–1 against Hong Kong.
Fàn Chun Yip, with the nickname "Piggy"(豬仔; Cantonese Yale: Jyūjái), is a retired goalkeeper and goalkeeping coach for Hong Kong Pegasus FC, was in the squad of the Hong Kong national football team as a captain, and now has been promoted to become a goalkeeping coach of the national team. Widely considered one of the best goalkeepers in Asia, he was voted the Hong Kong Footballer of the Year in the 2003/2004 season. He has also twice consecutively been voted Goalkeeper of the Tournament in the two recent editions of the East Asian Cup.
