D'ZRT was a Portuguese boy band consisting of Paulo Vintém, Angélico Vieira, Vítor Fonseca and Edmundo Vieira. The band was created when Portuguese television channel TVI cast a band for their series Morangos com Açucar. The four members portrayed Topê, David, Zé Milho and Ruca. Ruca already had musical experience as a contestant on Operação Triunfo. Paulo Vintém was also on the same show, but was eliminated early on.

Operação Triunfo (OT) is the Portuguese version of the original Star Academy. The first two seasons were hosted by Catarina Furtado, and the other two seasons were presented by Sílvia Alberto.

Operação Triunfo 2010 was the fourth and final edition of the Portuguese talent show Operação Triunfo based on Star Academy. It is broadcast by RTP, and it was the first season to broadcast the casting phase. The casting phase started on 16 October and the Gala phase started on 6 November. It follows the regular format. The host is Sílvia Alberto.

Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 with the song "Deixa-me sonhar " written by Paulo Martins. The song was performed by Rita Guerra, who was internally selected by the Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) on 9 January 2003 to represent the nation at the 2003 contest in Riga, Latvia. RTP returned to the Eurovision Song Contest after a one-year absence following their withdrawal in 2002 as one of the bottom six countries in the 2001 contest. The national final Canção para Eurovisão 2003 was organised in order to select the song that Rita Guerra would perform and the winning song was selected exclusively by public televoting. "Deixa-me sonhar " emerged as the winning song with 75% of the votes.

Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 with the song "Foi magia" written by Paulo Neves. The song was performed by Sofia Vitória. The Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) organised the national final Festival da Canção 2004 in order to select the Portuguese entry for the 2004 contest in Istanbul, Turkey. The competition consisted of two shows on 18 and 25 January 2004 where the winner was selected exclusively by public televoting. "Foi magia" performed by Sofia Vitória emerged as the winner with 39,072 votes.

Automatically qualified to the final, due to Portugal's first victory in the contest the year before, the song ended up in the last position.
