The 2004 Kremlin Cup was a tennis tournament played on indoor carpet courts. It was the 14th edition of the Kremlin Cup, and was part of the International Series of the 2004 ATP Tour, and of the Tier I Series of the 2004 WTA Tour. It took place at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia, from 11 October through 17 October 2004. The tournament ended up with victories by Russian players in both male and female singles/doubles competitions and Elena Dementieva additionally finished runner-up in the women's singles. Anastasia Myskina won the ladies singles and the doubles with Vera Zvonareva.

Elena Viacheslavovna Dementieva is a Russian former professional tennis player. She won the singles gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, having previously won the silver medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. She won 16 WTA singles titles, reached the finals of the 2004 French Open and 2004 US Open and reached seven other Grand Slam semifinals. Dementieva was also part of the Russian team that won the 2005 Fed Cup. In doubles, she won the 2002 WTA Championships with Janette Husárová and was the runner-up in two US Open doubles finals – in 2002 with Husárová and in 2005 with Flavia Pennetta. Dementieva achieved a career-high ranking of world No. 3, which was accomplished on 6 April 2009. She announced her retirement on 29 October 2010, after her final match at the 2010 WTA Championships. Between 2003 and 2010, she only ended one year, in 2007, outside the top 10. She is considered to be one of the most talented players never to have won a Grand Slam tournament.

She was also the runner-up at the 2004 French Open and 2004 US Open and a semi-finalist at the 2008 Wimbledon Championships, 2009 Australian Open and 2009 Wimbledon Championships. Dementieva was also a Silver Medallist in singles at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and a two-time semi-finalist at the year-ending WTA Tour Championships.

The 1999 Kremlin Cup was a tennis tournament played on indoor carpet courts at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow in Russia that was part of the International Series of the 1999 ATP Tour and of Tier I of the 1999 WTA Tour. The men's tournament was held from 8 November through 14 November 1998, while the women's tournament was held from 18 October through 24 October 1999. Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Nathalie Tauziat won the singles titles.

Nadia Petrova and Meghann Shaughnessy were the defending champions, but Shaughnessy did not compete this year. Petrova teamed up with Elena Bovina and lost in semifinals to tournament winners Anastasia Myskina and Vera Zvonareva.

Mary Pierce defeated Francesca Schiavone in the final, 6–4, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2005 Kremlin Cup. It was Pierce's final career WTA Tour title.

Justine Henin-Hardenne was the defending champion, but did not compete this year.

The 2004 Generali Ladies Linz is the 2004 Tier II WTA Tour tournament of the annually-held Generali Ladies Linz tennis tournament. It was the 18th edition of the tournament and was held from October 23–30, 2004 at the TipsArena Linz. Amélie Mauresmo won the singles title.
