Roger Federer defeated Lleyton Hewitt in the final, 6–0, 7–6(7–3), 6–0 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2004 US Open. It was his first US Open title and fourth major title overall. He became first man to capture the Australian Open, the Wimbledon Championships, and the US Open in a season since Jimmy Connors in 1974. With the win, he became the tenth man to win three majors in a calendar year.
Yevgeny Kafelnikov defeated Thomas Enqvist in the final, 4–6, 6–0, 6–3, 7–6(7–1) to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1999 Australian Open. It was his second and last major singles title, after his win at the 1996 French Open. With the win, Kafelnikov became the first Russian to win an Australian Open singles title.
Andre Agassi defeated Andriy Medvedev in the final, 1–6, 2–6, 6–4, 6–3, 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1999 French Open. It was his first French Open title and fourth major title overall, becoming the second man in the Open Era to complete the career Grand Slam, and the first to do so across three surfaces. He also completed the career Super Slam, the only men's singles player to do so.

It was his second US Open title and fifth major title overall. Gastón Gaudio defeated Guillermo Coria in the final, 0–6, 3–6, 6–4, 6–1, 8–6 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2004 French Open. It was his first and only major title, and Gaudio became the first Argentine to win a major since Guillermo Vilas at the 1979 Australian Open. Gaudio came back from two sets down, saved two championship points, and twice broke Coria's serve when the latter was serving for the championship.
Gustavo Kuerten defeated Sergi Bruguera in the final, 6–3, 6–4, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1997 French Open. It was his first major singles title. He became the first unseeded player since Mats Wilander in 1982 and the second-lowest ranked player ever to win a major, and the first Brazilian to win a men's singles major. Following the win, Kuerten improved in the rankings from world No. 66 to No. 15.

Three-time defending champion Roger Federer defeated Novak Djokovic in the final, 7–6(7–4), 7–6(7–2), 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2007 US Open. It was his fourth US Open title and 12th major title overall. With the win, Federer marked his third year in which he won three of the four majors. Also, he reached a record-equaling 14th consecutive major quarterfinal, matching Roy Emerson and Ivan Lendl. It was Djokovic's first major final appearance, and the first of an eventual record 36 major final appearances.

The final lasted 4 hours and 54 minutes, an Open Era record-equaling US Open final duration.
