The 2005 Sunfeast Open was the first edition of the WTA tennis tournament Sunfeast Open held in Kolkata, West Bengal, India for women's professional tennis from 19 to 25 September 2005. [1] The prize money was US$175,000.

Anastasia Andreyevna Myskina is a Russian former professional tennis player. Myskina won the 2004 French Open singles title, becoming the first Russian woman to win a major singles title. Due to this victory, she rose to No. 3 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, becoming the first Russian woman to reach the top 3 in the history of the rankings. In September 2004, she reached a career-high ranking of No. 2.

Justine Henin-Hardenne defeated Mary Pierce in the final, 6–1, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2005 French Open. It was her second French Open title, and her first of three consecutive French Open titles. Henin became the second woman in the Open Era to win the title after saving a match point, doing so in the fourth round against Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated Elena Dementieva in the final, 6–3, 7–5 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2004 US Open. She lost only one set during the tournament. Kuznetsova became the third Russian woman, after Anastasia Myskina and Maria Sharapova, to win a major that year and overall. This was also the second-ever all-Russian major final.

The 2007 Sunfeast Open was a Tier III tennis event on the 2007 WTA Tour, organised for women's professional tennis organized at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Calcutta. This was the third edition of the tournament.
