The 2007 Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team represented Rutgers University in the 2007 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The team was led by seventh-year head coach Greg Schiano.

For the first time in the history of Rutgers football, the team entered a season ranked—they were 16th in both the Associated Press and Coaches polls. The Scarlet Knights finished the season with an 8–5 record that included a 52–30 victory over the Ball State Cardinals in the 2008 International Bowl. It marked the third consecutive appearance of the team in a post-season bowl game, and the second bowl game won by the team.

The game began at 8:00 PM US EST on Saturday, December 19, 2009, was telecast on ESPN and featured the UCF of Conference USA and Rutgers of the Big East. Rutgers defeated UCF 45–24 in a game where Mohamed Sanu, the game's MVP, caught 4 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown in addition to rushing 14 times for 47 yards and two touchdowns. Through sponsorship from the Beef O'Brady's restaurant franchise, the game was officially known as the 2009 St. Petersburg Bowl presented by Beef 'O' Brady's.

The 2012 Russell Athletic Bowl was a postseason American college football bowl game held on December 28, 2012, at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida in the United States. This was the first under the Russell Athletic moniker after eight game under Champs Sports. The 23rd edition of the Russell Athletic Bowl began at 5:30 p.m. EST and aired on ESPN. It featured the Big East Conference co-champion Rutgers Scarlet Knights against the Virginia Tech Hokies from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and was the final game of the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season for both teams. The Hokies accepted their invitation after achieving a 6–6 record in the regular season, while the Scarlet Knights accepted theirs after achieving a 9–3 record.

The 2013 Pinstripe Bowl was an American college football bowl game that was played on December 28, 2013 at Yankee Stadium in the New York City borough of The Bronx. It was one of the 2013–14 bowl games that concluded the 2013 FBS football season. The fourth edition of the Pinstripe Bowl, it featured the Rutgers Scarlet Knights of the American Athletic Conference against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, an independent team. It began at 12:00 noon EST and aired on ESPN. The game was sponsored by the New Era Cap Company, and was officially known as the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. Notre Dame defeated Rutgers by a score of 29–16. Notre Dame's championship was vacated on February 13, 2018, due to an academic cheating scandal. Because of this the win will be taken away from Notre Dame record books.

The 2014 Quick Lane Bowl was a post-season college football bowl game between the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the North Carolina Tar Heels played on December 26, 2014, at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. It was the first edition of the Quick Lane Bowl, replacing the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, and the final game of the 2014 NCAA Division I FBS football season for both teams. For 2014 bowl season the Quick Lane Bowl had contractual tie-ins with the Big Ten Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference. With the discontinuance of the Little Caesars Bowl, successor to the Motor City Bowl, it was the first time since 1997 that a Mid-American Conference team did not play a post-season game in Detroit. The game was sponsored by Ford Motor Company through its service-center brand Quick Lane.

The 1995 Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team represented Rutgers University in the 1995 NCAA Division I-A football season. In their sixth and final season under head coach Doug Graber, the Scarlet Knights compiled a 4–7 record, were outscored by opponents 412 to 304, and finished in sixth place in the Big East Conference. The team's statistical leaders included Ray Lucas with 2,180 passing yards, Terrell Willis with 773 rushing yards, and Marco Battaglia with 894 receiving yards.

The 1978 Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team represented Rutgers University in the 1978 NCAA Division I-A football season. In their sixth season under head coach Frank R. Burns, the Scarlet Knights compiled a 9–3 record while competing as an independent. The team outscored its opponents 284 to 165 and finished the season with a 34–18 loss to Arizona State in the Garden State Bowl. The team's statistical leaders included Bob Hering with 1,193 passing yards, Glen Kehler with 883 rushing yards, and David Dorn with 535 receiving yards. It was the Scarlet Knights' first major bowl appearance.

The 1914 Rutgers Queensmen football team represented Rutgers University as an independent during the 1914 college football season. In their second season under head coach George Sanford, the Queensmen compiled a 5–3–1 record and outscored their opponents, 208 to 73. Coach Sanford was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1971.
