The Hong Kong Open is an annual badminton tournament held in Hong Kong since 1982, but it did not take place annually. It is organized by Hong Kong Badminton Association and it became one of the Super Series tournament in 2007. In 2008, Wang Chen became the first home player to win the Hong Kong Open title.

The 2007 BWF Super Series was the inaugural season of the BWF Super Series. It was held from January 16 with Malaysia Open and end on December 2, 2007. It was expected to end on December 23, 2007 with Super Series Finals; this event was postponed and later cancelled due to an uncertain circumstance.

The 2008 Asia Cup was a One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament, held in Pakistan from 24 June to 6 July 2008, at two venues. The 2008 BWF Super Series was the second season of the BWF Super Series. The season spanned between the continental of Asia and Europe and was starting with Malaysia Open from January 15 and ended with Hong Kong Open on November 30, 2008. The top eight ranked players competed in the Masters Finals in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia from December 18 to December 21, 2008.

The 2022 Women's East Asia Cup was a Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) cricket tournament held in Kaizuka, Osaka, Japan from 27 to 30 October 2022. This was the fourth edition of the women's East Asia Cup, and was originally scheduled to involve the same teams as in all previous editions, namely China, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea. China and South Korea both withdrew from this year's tournament, and so Japan and Hong Kong played a four-match series to determine the winner. The four member countries signed an agreement in 2021 to make the women's East Asia Cup an annual event, but the 2021 event was cancelled due to COVID-19. China won the previous tournament in 2019.
