All participating skaters are allowed to skate all races.
The 2007 World Sprint Speed Skating Championships were held in Vikingskipet, Hamar, on 20–21 January 2007. They were the 36th World Championships, and it was the third time the Championships were held in Hamar. Several of the world's top skaters, including the top two from the 2006 men's and women's standings, did not take part in the competition, while Lee Kang-seok (men), Lee Sang-hwa and Wang Beixing (women), all among the top three in the 500 meter World Cup rankings, did not take part as they are competing in other colliding tournaments.
Wouter olde Heuvel is a Dutch former speed skater who participated in international competitions. His older brother Remco is also a speed skater.

The season started on 16 November 2012 in Heerenveen, Netherlands, and ended with the final on 10 March 2013, also in Heerenveen. In total, nine competition weekends were held at eight different locations, twelve cups were contested, and 82 races took place.
Irene Schouten is a Dutch speed skater who competed in allround marathon and inline-skating events. She is a five-time Olympic medalist and a triple Olympic Champion, having won the 3,000m, 5,000m, and mass start events at the 2022 Beijing Games. As of 12 February 2022, she holds the Olympic record in both distances. Her coach is Jillert Anema. Schouten has announced that she is retiring as a competing speed skater.

Douwe de Vries is a Dutch former professional marathon speed skater and long track speed skater. He resides in Heerenveen, Friesland. Douwe de Vries, who was a member of the commercial team of LottoNL-Jumbo, is the current holder of the team pursuit world record.
Joel Dufter is a German male speed skater. He represented Germany at the 2018 Winter Olympics and competed in the men's 500m event eventually finishing at 29th position. Prior to the Olympic debut, he has participated at the 2015–16 ISU Speed Skating World Cup competing in different events.
Letitia de Jong is a Dutch former speed skater who specialized in the sprint distances.
