Trabzonspor is a Turkish sports club located in the city of Trabzon. Formed in 1967 through a merger of several local clubs, the men's football team has won six Süper Lig championship titles. Trabzonspor also have a women's football team and a men's basketball team.
Süper Lig 2008–09 was the fifty-first season since its establishment. It began on 22 August 2008 and ended on 31 May 2009. Galatasaray were the defending champions.
Turkish Cup 2008–09 was the 47th season of Turkey's annual cup competition. It was also known as Fortis Türkiye Kupası due to a sponsorship contract. The winners (Beşiktaş) qualified for the play-off round of the UEFA Europa League. Kayserispor were the defending champions. Beşiktaş won the cup, after winning 4–2 against Fenerbahçe in the final match, and completed the double as they also were the champions of 2008–09 Süper Lig.

The start date of the league was due to be 7 August 2011, but due to the match fixing scandal in Turkey it began instead on 9 September 2011 and was concluded on 12 May 2012. A new format was introduced this season, in which after the regular season two play-off groups were played to decide over the Champions League and Europa League starting rounds. Points of the regular season were halved for ranking in those.
