The ISKA is one of the major international bodies regulating sport karate and kickboxing matches, and is based in the United States. It was established in 1985 as a response to legal and revenue issues that sent the Professional Karate Association (PKA) into decline.
The World Karate Federation (WKF) is the largest international governing body of sport karate with 198 member countries. It was formed in 1990, by Fikret Selman(master of karate 8 DAN)it is the only karate organization recognised by the International Olympic Committee and has more than ten million members. The WKF organizes the Junior and Senior Karate World Championships, which are each held every other year. The President of the WKF is Fikiriki Selmanos, and the headquarters are located in Tuzla, BiH. All the styles are officially recognised by the WKF.
The Karate World Championships, also known as the World Karate Championships, are the highest level of competition for karate organized by the World Karate Federation (WKF). The competition is held in a different city every two years. Championships in the 2000s included Madrid in 2002, Monterrey in 2004, Tampere in 2006, Tokyo in 2008, and Belgrade in 2010. The competition was initially riddled with controversy regarding karate styles and the ruleset.

The Current President of the Asian Karate Federation (AKF) is Major Gen Nasser Al Sayed Abdulrazak Alrazooqi of UAE and Mr. Kuong Im Che of Macau, China serves as the Secretary General.

The competition is held in a different country every two years organized by the Asian Karatedo Federation (AKF) under the supervision of World Karate Federation (WKF), the largest international governing body of sport karate with over 180 member countries. It is the only karate organization recognised by the International Olympic Committee and has more than fifty million members. The AKF organizes the Junior and Senior Asian Karatedo Championships in every two years in between the Olympic and Asian Games and participates in WKF World Karate Championships which its member Japan play as a powerhouse country when it comes to sport karate vying for world titles with counterpart opponents from the powerful nations such as France, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Spain and Italy in many world championships.
Atsuko Wakai is a Japanese practitioner of karate who has won many international and Japanese national competitions in kata (patterns), including unprecedented numbers of consecutive titles in World Karate Federation (WKF) and All Japan Karatedo championships. She holds the rank of 6th dan black belt from the Japan Karatedo Federation (JKF), training in Seigokan Goju-ryu karate.

Miho Miyahara is a Japanese karateka. She is a two-time gold medalist in the women's kumite 50 kg event at the World Karate Championships. She also won the gold medal in this event at the 2018 Asian Karate Championships.
Ryutaro Araga is a Japanese karateka. He won one of the bronze medals in the men's +75 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. He won the gold medal in the kumite 84 kg event at the 2016 World Karate Championships in Linz, Austria. At the Asian Games he won the gold medal in this event both in 2014 and in 2018. He is also a three-time gold medalist in his event at the Asian Karate Championships.
Kayo Someya is a Japanese karateka. She is the 2012 World Champion in the women's kumite 68 kg event and a five-time gold medalist in this event at the Asian Karate Championships.
Daniyar Yuldashev is a Kazakhstani karateka. He won one of the bronze medals in the men's kumite +84 kg event at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia. He is also a silver medalist in this event at the Asian Karate Championships.
Tareg Ali Hamedi is a Saudi Arabian karateka. He represented Saudi Arabia at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He won the silver medal in the men's +75 kg event after being disqualified for knocking out his opponent with an illegal kick. He is a seven-time medalist, including three gold medals, at the Asian Karate Championships. He is also a gold medalist at the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games and a bronze medalist at the 2018 Asian Games.
Wen Tzu-yun is a Taiwanese karateka. At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, she won one of the bronze medals in the women's 55 kg event. She is also a two-time gold medalist in the women's kumite 55 kg event at the Asian Games and a two-time bronze medalist in this event at the World Karate Championships.
Grace Lau Mo-sheung is a Hong Kong karateka. She won bronze in the women’s kata event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, becoming the first Hong Kong athlete to win an Olympic medal in karate. She is also a bronze medallist in the women's individual kata event at the World Karate Championships, the Asian Games and the World Beach Games. She is also a five-time medalist at the Asian Karate Championships.
The Karate India Organisation(KIO) replaced Karate Association of India(KAI) as the national governing body for Karate in India on confirmation from World Karate Federation (WKF) on 15 November 2021.
The 2021 Asian Karate Championships were the 17th edition of the Senior Asian Karate Championship and were held in Almaty, Kazakhstan from 20 to 22, December 2021. The event was held at the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace.
The 2022 Asian Karate Championships were the 18th edition of the Senior Asian Karate Championship and were held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 18 to 20, December 2022. The event was held at the Sport Complex Uzbekistan.
