The 2009 Singapore League Cup kicked off on 1 June.
For this season, the 12 teams will be divided into four groups of three in the preliminary round which will be played on a round-robin basis. The top two teams from each group qualify for the next round which will be played on a knockout (single elimination) basis.
The 2009 League Cup Final took place on 19 June (Friday) at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
The draw for the group stage was held on May 14, 2009. The 12 S-League teams are drawn into 4 groups of 3
Winners and runners up of each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.

The 2008 edition of the Singapore Cup soccer competition was officially known as the RHB Singapore Cup. It was the 11th staging of the annual Singapore Cup tournament.
The 2008 Singapore League Cup marks the second occasion on which the Singapore League Cup competition has been staged.. Its official sponsored name for 2008 is the Avaya-J&J League Cup.
The 2009 S.League was the 14th season since the establishment of the S.League. Singapore Armed Forces FC won their eighth S.League title.

Football at the 2009 Asian Youth Games was held from 20 June to 6 July 2009 at the Jalan Besar Stadium. The organizers also used few other college stadiums for the preliminary rounds, Temasek Polytechnic, Meridian Junior College, Victoria Junior College and Jurong Junior College. Age limit for the teams was under-14. South Korea won the gold medal after beating North Korea 2–0 in the final.
