Kim Clijsters defeated Maria Sharapova in the final, 2–6, 7–6(7–4), 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2010 Cincinnati Masters. She saved three championship points en route to the title. It was Sharapova's second final defeat in as many weeks, having lost the Stanford final to Victoria Azarenka just two weeks earlier.
Jelena Janković was the defending champion, but lost in the third round to Akgul Amanmuradova.
Ana Ivanovic, ranked as the world No. 62 entering the tournament, upset Azarenka in the first round, having trailed 2–6, 2–5 before fighting back to win the match, 2–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–2. [1] She then went on to make her third semifinal of the year, being forced to retire against Clijsters after injuring her foot. [2]
The top eight seeds receive a bye into the second round.

Kim Clijsters defeated Mary Pierce in the final, 6–3, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2005 US Open. It was her first major singles title and first of an eventual three US Open titles.
Amélie Mauresmo defeated Justine Henin-Hardenne in the final, 6–1, 2–0 ret., to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2006 Australian Open. It was her first major title. Henin-Hardenne was suffering from stomach cramps resulting from the accidental misuse of anti-inflammatories for a chronic shoulder injury. This was Mauresmo's third match of the tournament where her opponent retired. Mauresmo and Henin-Hardenne would have a rematch in the Wimbledon final later that year, where Mauresmo would win in three sets.
Justine Henin-Hardenne defeated Mary Pierce in the final, 6–1, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2005 French Open. It was her second French Open title, and her first of three consecutive French Open titles. Henin became the second woman in the Open Era to win the title after saving a match point, doing so in the fourth round against Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Ana Ivanovic defeated Dinara Safina in the final, 6–4, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2008 French Open. It was her first and only major singles title. With the win, Ivanovic also became the world No. 1; Maria Sharapova, Jelena Janković and Svetlana Kuznetsova were also in contention for the top ranking. Ivanovic dropped only one set during the tournament, to Janković in the semifinals.
Elena Dementieva was the defending champion, but she was defeated in the quarterfinals by Maria Sharapova.

Kim Clijsters defeated Li Na in the final, 3–6, 6–3, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2011 Australian Open. It was her first Australian Open title and her fourth major overall. Li became the first Asian player to reach a singles major final, and would go on to win the French Open a few months later.
Caroline Wozniacki defeated Vera Zvonareva in the final, 6–3, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2010 Canadian Open.
Caroline Wozniacki defeated Marion Bartoli in the final, 6–1, 2–6, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2011 Indian Wells Masters.
Victoria Azarenka defeated Maria Sharapova in the final, 6–1, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2011 Miami Open. It was her second Miami Open title.
Li Na defeated the defending champion Francesca Schiavone in the final, 6–4, 7–6(7–0) to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2011 French Open. It was her first major title, and she became the first Asian and Chinese player to win a major.
Serena Williams defeated Samantha Stosur in the final, 6–4, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2011 Canadian Open. It was her second Canadian Open title.
Maria Sharapova defeated Jelena Janković in the final, 4–6, 7–6(7–3), 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2011 Cincinnati Masters.
Samantha Stosur defeated Serena Williams in the final, 6–2, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2011 US Open. It was her first and only major singles title. Stosur became the first Australian woman to win a major since Evonne Goolagong Cawley at the 1980 Wimbledon Championships, and the first to win the US Open since Margaret Court in 1973.
Victoria Azarenka defeated Maria Sharapova in the final, 6–3, 6–0 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2012 Australian Open. It was her first major title. Azarenka became the first Belarusian to reach and win a major final, and became the world No. 1 in doing so. Caroline Wozniacki, Petra Kvitová and Maria Sharapova were also in contention for the top ranking.
Serena Williams defeated Agnieszka Radwańska in the final, 6–1, 5–7, 6–2 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 2012 Wimbledon Championships. It was her fifth Wimbledon singles title and her 14th major singles title overall. Radwańska became the first Pole to reach a major singles final since Jadwiga Jędrzejowska in 1939, and the first in the Open Era.
Serena Williams defeated Victoria Azarenka in the final, 6–2, 2–6, 7–5 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2012 US Open. Azarenka served for the championship and led 5–3 in the third set. It was the first time since 1995 that the final went to three sets. With the victory, Williams became the third woman in history to win Wimbledon, the Olympics, and the US Open in the same season, after Steffi Graf and her sister Venus Williams. Williams lost only one set during the tournament, to Azarenka in the final.
