The 1960 Copa de Campeones de América was the first season of the Copa CONMEBOL Libertadores, CONMEBOL's premier club tournament. Seven association's clubs entered the first competition, with three not sending a representative. The first match of the tournament was played between Uruguayan side Peñarol and Bolivian side Jorge Wilstermann on April 19 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The First Stage, or the Preliminary Phase, of the 2009 Copa Sudamericana de Clubes was the first round of the tournament. It was contested by 30 teams in 15 two-legged ties. The winners of each tie advanced to the Second Stage.
The South American Zone of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification saw nine teams competing for 4 or 5 berths in the finals. Brazil automatically qualified for the World Cup as the host nation so were not involved in CONMEBOL qualifying. Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay advanced to the World Cup.

The Campeonato Internacional de Verano 2010, also known after its sponsored name Copa Bimbo 2010, was the second edition of the Campeonato Internacional de Verano, an exhibition international club football competition that featured three clubs from Uruguay and one from Paraguay. It was played in Montevideo, Uruguay at the Estadio Centenario from 15 to 18 January 2010. It was won by Uruguayan club Nacional, who defeated fellow Uruguayan side Danubio in the final.

The 1989 Recopa Sudamericana was the first Recopa Sudamericana, a football competition for South American clubs that won the previous year's two most important competitions in the continent: the Copa Libertadores and the Supercopa Sudamericana. The inaugural edition was disputed between Nacional, winners of the 1988 Copa Libertadores, and Racing, winners of the 1988 Supercopa Sudamericana. The first leg was played on January 31 in Montevideo, while the second leg was played in Buenos Aires on February 6.

The 2011 Copa Libertadores de América Finals were the final two-legged tie that decided the winner of the 2011 Copa Libertadores de América, the 52nd edition of the Copa Libertadores de América, South America's premier international club football tournament organized by CONMEBOL. The matches were played on June 15 and 22, 2011 between Brazilian club Santos and Uruguayan club Peñarol. Santos made their fourth finals appearance and first since 2003. Peñarol made their tenth finals appearance, and first since 1987. The two teams had previously met in the finals in 1962. Santos won the cup after beating Penarol 2–1 in the second leg of the final.

The 2012 Campeonato Internacional de Verano, also known as 2012 Copa Bimbo for sponsoring purposes, is the fourth edition of the Campeonato Internacional de Verano, an exhibition international club football competition that featured two clubs from Uruguay, one from Peru and one from Chile (Palestino). It is played in Montevideo, Uruguay at the Estadio Centenario from 13 to 15 January 2012.

The 2013 Copa EuroAmericana was the first edition of Copa EuroAmericana, a exhibition men's football friendly tournament created by DirecTV. This edition took place in South America on 20 July – 4 August 2013. Eleven teams from CONMEBOL and UEFA participated in it. Europe, represented by Atlético Madrid, Porto and Sevilla, won the cup by a 6–2 score, beating South America, represented by Atlético Nacional, Barcelona, Deportivo Anzoátegui, Estudiantes, Millonarios, Nacional, Sporting Cristal, Universidad Católica.

The 2018 Supercopa Uruguaya was the first edition of the Supercopa Uruguaya, Uruguay's football super cup. It was held on 26 January 2018 between 2017 Torneo Intermedio winners Nacional and 2017 Primera División champions Peñarol. It was originally scheduled to be played on 28 January, however, and due to Nacional's first match in the 2018 Copa Libertadores being scheduled on 31 January, the Supercopa was moved to 26 January.
