The 1984–85 European Cup tournament was overshadowed by the Heysel Stadium disaster that happened prior to the final match. That edition was won for the first time by Juventus in a 1–0 win against defending champions Liverpool. At sporting level, with this result they became the first club to have won all three major European trophies, as well a posteriori as the one that needed the shortest amount of time to complete this.

The 1989–90 European Cup was the 35th edition of Europe's premier club football tournament, the European Cup. The final was played at the Praterstadion in Vienna on 23 May 1990. The final was contested by Italian defending champions Milan and Portuguese twice former winners Benfica. Milan successfully defended their title with a 1–0 victory, securing their fourth European Cup trophy. Milan remained the last team to successfully defend their trophy until Real Madrid did it again in 2017. Arsenal were denied a place in the competition, as this was the last year of a ban from European competitions for English clubs following the Heysel Stadium disaster of 1985.

The 2011–12 Czech Cup was the 19th edition of the annual football knockout tournament organized by the Czech Football Association of the Czech Republic. The draw for the whole competition was made on 8 July 2011. It began on 24 July 2011 with the preliminary round and was due to conclude with the final on 16 May 2012, but the Czech Republic's qualification for UEFA Euro 2012, the final brought forward the close to 2 May 2012. The winners of the competition qualified for the third qualifying round of the 2012–13 UEFA Europa League.
