The political system of Qatar is either an absolute monarchy or a constitutional monarchy, with the Emir of Qatar as head of state and head of government. Under the 2003 constitutional referendum it should be a constitutional monarchy. Sharia law is the main source of Qatari legislation.
Al Wakrah is the capital city of the Al Wakrah Municipality in Qatar. Al Wakrah's eastern edge is the shores of the Persian Gulf and Qatar's capital Doha is situated to the city's immediate north. Governed by Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, it was originally a small fishing and pearling village. Over the years, it evolved into a small city with a population of more than 80,000 and is currently considered to be the second-largest city in Qatar.
Mesaieed is an industrial city in Al Wakrah Municipality in the State of Qatar, approximately 36 kilometres (22 mi) south of Doha. It was one of the most important cities in Qatar during the 20th century, having gained in recognition as a prime industrial zone and tanking center for petroleum received from Dukhan.
Al Gharrafa is a district of Al Rayyan City in Qatar, located in the municipality of Al Rayyan. In close proximity to metropolitan Doha and Education City, the Doha Expressway and Al Shamal Highway run along the district. Many malls operate out of the area, most notably Landmark Mall. To the east it neighbors the largely residential areas of Duhail and Madinat Khalifa North, therefore Al Gharrafa is largely a retail hub for nearby residential areas. Doha's downtown is about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) to the southeast.
Qatar, officially the State of Qatar, is a country located in Western Asia, occupying the small Qatar Peninsula on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Whether the sovereign state should be regarded as a constitutional monarchy or an absolute monarchy is disputed. Its sole land border is with neighbouring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) monarchy Saudi Arabia to the south, with the rest of its territory surrounded by the Persian Gulf. The Gulf of Bahrain, an inlet of the Persian Gulf, separates Qatar from nearby Bahrain.
Municipal elections were held in Qatar on 1 April 2007 for the third time. Three women and 122 men ran for 29 seats in the Central Municipal Council. About 28,000 citizens of the 174,000 Qataris were able to vote, and overall turnout was 51.1 per cent.

Al Khor is a coastal city in northern Qatar, located 50 kilometres north of the capital, Doha. Considered one of Qatar's largest cities, it is the capital city of the municipality of Al Khor. The name of the city means creek in Arabic; it was given this name because the original settlement was built on a creek.
Old Airport is an area of Doha, Qatar. The district is located close to the site of Doha's old international airport servicing Qatar before the construction of the Hamad International Airport. Dukhan is a city in the western municipality of Al-Shahaniya in the State of Qatar. It is approximately 80 kilometres (50 mi) west of the capital, Doha. Dukhan is administrated by Qatar's state oil agency Qatar Petroleum and is the site of the first oil discovery in Qatar. It was previously a part of Al Rayyan municipality.
Women in Qatar Qatar's policies regarding women's rights is restricted due to the male guardianship law. and restrictions influenced by the Wahhabi interpretation of Islam. Both women and men were enfranchised in the country at the same time, in 1999. Labor force participation rates of Qatari women are above the world average and among the highest in the Arab World, which comes mainly as a result of an increasing number of Qatari women who are attaining academic degrees.
Municipal elections in Qatar were held for the fifth time on 13 May 2015. Five women contested the polls as candidates. Two women were elected to the Central Municipal Council (CMC) after winning their constituencies, heralding the first time two women have occupied seats in the council. This round of elections witnessed the merging of a number of depopulated constituencies and the addition of several new constituencies.
Al Thakhira is a town on the coast of the Al Khor municipality in Qatar, about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) northeast of the city of Al Khor City and 60 kilometres (37 mi) from the capital Doha. It is closely affiliated with Al Khor City, with both having been founded by the Al Muhannadi tribe. Like other coastal settlements in the area, its inhabitants historically relied solely on pearling and fishing for sustenance.
Madinat ash Shamal is the capital city of the municipality of Al Shamal in Qatar. Located more than 100 kilometres (62 mi) north of Qatar's capital Doha, the city was delimited in 1988 and shares its boundaries with Ar Ru'ays to the east and Abu Dhalouf to the west.

Al Rayyan is a city in the municipality of its namesake, Al Rayyan, Qatar. It is the second-most populous city in Qatar, with a population of 605,712 as of 2015. Consisting of all of the districts in the municipality's easternmost section, its boundary cuts off at roughly the point where the Al Majd Highway runs through the municipality. It is considered a part of the Metropolitan Doha area. It is one of the proposed venues for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
