The Drexel Dragons are the athletic teams of Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The VCU Rams are the athletic teams of Virginia Commonwealth University of Richmond, Virginia, United States. The Rams compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. The most successful teams have been the men's tennis and basketball teams, which have had success in their conference and on the regional and national stages. The school's colors are black and gold. The athletic director is Ed McLaughlin. The official student supporter group is known as the Rowdy Rams.

The season marked the first time in 11 years that the James Madison Dukes won the regular season title, amassing a conference record of 8–3–0, with a 12–4–1 overall record. The regular season culminated with the tournament, which was won by the Delaware Blue Hens, making it their first conference championship in 40 years.

It was the 44th season of the University fielding a men's basketball program. Led by third-year head coach Shaka Smart, the Rams were coming off a season marked by a run to the Final Four. Expected to finish lower in the CAA regular season standings, the Rams finished as regular season runners-up with a 15–3 conference record, before winning the 2012 CAA Men's Basketball Championship against Drexel, 59–56, earning their 11th ever berth into the NCAA Tournament. It was also the first season since 1984–85 that the Rams consecutively qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

The Dragons, led by 11th year head coach Bruiser Flint, played their home games at Daskalakis Athletic Center and are members of the Colonial Athletic Association. They finished the season 29–7, 16–2 in CAA play to be crowned CAA regular season champions. They lost in the championship game of the CAA Basketball tournament to VCU. As a conference champion who failed to win their conference tournament, they received an automatic bid into the 2012 NIT where they defeated UCF in the first round and Northern Iowa in the second round before falling in the quarterfinals to Massachusetts.
The 2012 CAA men's soccer tournament, known as the 2012 Virginia 529 CAA Men's Soccer Championship for sponsorship reasons, is the 30th edition of the CAA Men's Soccer Tournament, which determines the conference's automatic berth into the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. The tournament will be played at Drexel University in Philadelphia on the Vidas Athletic Center.

The 2021 CAA men's soccer tournament was the postseason men's soccer tournament for the Colonial Athletic Association held from November 11 through November 14, 2021. The tournament was held at Hofstra Soccer Stadium in Hempstead, NY. The four-team single-elimination tournament consisted of two rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The defending champions were the James Madison Dukes. They were unable to defend their crown as they were under a post season ban from the CAA. The Hofstra Pride won the tournament by defeating Elon 3–2 in the final. The conference tournament title was the fifth overall for the Hofstra men's soccer program all of which have come under head coach Richard Nuttall. As tournament champions, Hofstra earned the CAA's automatic berth into the 2021 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament.

The five-match tournament took place at campus sites, with the higher seed hosting. The six-team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The defending champions were the Hofstra Pride. They were able to successfully defend their title, defeating the top overall seed, Elon 2–1 in the Final. The conference tournament title was the sixth overall for the Hofstra men's soccer program all of which have come under head coach Richard Nuttall. As tournament champions, Hofstra earned the CAA's automatic berth into the 2022 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament.
