The 2012 season was Cork City's first season back in the League of Ireland Premier Division since being expelled following the 2009 season. Cork City finished in 6th position in the league and reached the third and second rounds in the FAI Cup and League of Ireland Cup respectively.

The 2011 season is Bohemian Football Club's 91st season in the League of Ireland and the club's 121st year in existence having played previously in the Irish Football League from 1902 to 1911 and 1912 to 1920. Having finished 2nd in the league last year they club will play in the League of Ireland Premier Division under manager Pat Fenlon. They will also compete in the FAI Cup, the League of Ireland Cup, the Setanta Cup, the Leinster Senior Cup and the Europa League this season.
The 2011 FAI Senior Challenge Cup, also known as the 2011 FAI Ford Cup, is the 91st season of the national football competition of the Republic of Ireland. The winners of the competition will earn spots in both the second qualifying round of the 2012–13 UEFA Europa League and the 2012 Setanta Sports Cup.
The 2011 Sligo Rovers F.C. season is the club's 67th season competing in the League of Ireland and the team's fifth season under the management of Paul Cook.
In 2012 Shelbourne F.C. competed in the League of Ireland Premier Division. Shelbourne finished the season in 8th position and reached the semi-finals of the 2012 FAI Cup. The 2012 season marked the first time Shelbourne competed in the Premier Division since 2006, when as champions, they were demoted due to financial issues. It's the team's eighth consecutive season in the Premier Division. Long left his role in September and Devlin retook the manager's role.
The 2012 season was Derry City's second successive season in the League of Ireland Premier Division. Alongside the league competition, the club also competed in the FAI Cup, the Setanta Sports Cup and the League of Ireland Cup this season. Having finished in third place in the 2011 Premier Division, Derry City would have qualified for the first qualifying round of the 2012-13 UEFA Europa League but they did not participate as the club were refused entry by UEFA due to a three-year European ban given to the club following their liquidation in 2009. It was the second year that Liam Buckley was the team's manager, following replacing Pete Mahon in December 2011. St Pat's finished the season as the 2013 League of Ireland Premier Division champions. They were also Leinster Senior Cup runners up. They also competed in the UEFA Europa League, the FAI Cup, the Setanta Cup and the League of Ireland Cup.
