The 2012 Bray Wanderers F.C. season is the club's 28th season competing in the League of Ireland and the team's first season under the management of Keith Long as Pat Devlin took up the director of football role at the club. It's the team's eighth consecutive season in the Premier Division. Long left his role in September and Devlin retook the manager's role.

In the 2006 season, Shelbourne were crowned League of Ireland Premier Division champions.
During 2010, Bohemians competed in the League of Ireland Premier Division, the FAI Cup, the League of Ireland Cup, the Setanta Cup, the Leinster Senior Cup and the UEFA Champions League. Bohemians had won their 11th league title and their 3rd League Cup in the previous season. This was the club's 120th year in existence.

Having finished in third place in the 2011 Premier Division, Derry City would have qualified for the first qualifying round of the 2012-13 UEFA Europa League but they did not participate as the club were refused entry by UEFA due to a three-year European ban given to the club following their liquidation in 2009.
