The 2012 season is Sporting Cristal's 57th season in the Peruvian First Division, and also the club's 57th consecutive season in the top-flight of Peruvian football.
Sporting Cristal won their 16th Torneo Descentralizado title, after seven years of failed attempts. The team finished the season first in the aggregate table and were undefeated at home during the entire season.
On February 12, 2012, Roberto Palacios played his last game in a Sporting Cristal jersey in a friendly match against San Martín in the Estadio Nacional.
Sporting Cristal were crowned champions of the 2012 Torneo Descentralizado on December 9, 2012 after defeating Real Garcilaso 1-0, at the Estadio Nacional.

The 2008 Torneo Descentralizado was the ninety-second season of Peruvian football. A total of 14 teams competed in the tournament, with Universidad San Martín defending their national title. The season began on February 17, 2008 and ended on December 14, 2008.
The 2010 Torneo Descentralizado de Fútbol Profesional was the ninety-fourth season of Association Peruvian football. A total of 16 teams competed in the tournament, with Universitario de Deportes as the defending champion. The season began on February and concluded on December 12 with the victory of Universidad San Martín over León de Huánuco in the second leg of the final Play-off, giving Universidad San Martín its third Peruvian title.

The Torneo de Promoción y Reserva is a football tournament in Peru. There are currently 16 clubs in the league. It will play from the year 2010 in a simultaneous way and preliminary to the Torneo Descentralizado among the 16 teams of first division. Each team will have in staff to twelve 21-year-old players, three of 19 and three experienced; whenever they be recorded in the club. The team champion in this tournament will offer two points and the runner-up a point of bonus to the respective regular team in the 2010 Torneo Descentralizado.
