    Neyyattinkara, is a significant municipal town and a prominent center for both industry and commerce, positioned at the southernmost tip of the Thiruvananthapuram metropolitan area in Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala State. It also serves as the administrative headquarters of Neyyattinkara Taluk.Nestled along the banks of the Neyyar River, one of the district's principal rivers, the town derives its name from its location, with 'Neyyatinkara' in Malayalam translating to 'the shore of the river Neyyar.' Neyyattinkara ranks as the second most densely populated municipality in the district, following Varkala. Notably, the Vizhinjam International Seaport Thiruvananthapuram is situated within Neyyattinkara Taluk."

    E. Balanandan was a communist politician from the Kerala State of India. He had been a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)'s politburo since 1978. Born in Sakthikulangara, Kollam District, he was the son of Raman and Eswary Balandan. His wife Sarojini Balanandan was a former CPM state committee member.

    Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was an Indian politician of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was the secretary of the CPI(M) Kerala State Committee from 2015 to 2022. He stepped down from the position of state secretary due to his failing health. He was the Chief Editor of the Malayalam newspaper Deshabhimani.

    Shanmugavel Rajendran is an Indian politician and former Member of the Legislative Assembly of Kerala. He was elected in the 2006 Kerala Legislative Assembly election as the MLA from Devikulam Assembly constituency as a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He subsequently also won elections from the same constituency in 2011 and 2016. He was also elected as District Panchayat president of Idukki in 2003. In 2022, his membership of the CPI(M) was suspended for a year due to his alleged efforts to defeat the CPI(M)'s candidate for the 2021 Legislative Assembly elections in Devikulam.

    The thirteenth Kerala legislative assembly election was held on 13 April 2011 to elect members representing 140 constituencies in Kerala. Election results were released on 13 May 2011. The election, whose results were released on 13 May 2011, proved to be one of the closest ones in Kerala's history, with the United Democratic Front (UDF) beating the Left Democratic Front (LDF) by a margin of 4 seats.

    R. Selvaraj was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Neyyattinkara constituency, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. He was a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the present ruling party in Kerala but resigned from the Kerala Legislature and the party on 9 March 2012 and joined Indian National Congress party. His resignation was attributed to rampant factionalism in his party. After joining the Indian National Congress, he contested the by-election from Neyyattinkara on "Hand" symbol and romped home with a margin of 6,334 votes, pushing up the ruling UDF's slender majority in the 140-member Kerala Assembly to 73. He again contested from the same constituency in 2016 and 2021. but he got defeated in both elections, i.e. for 9543 votes in 2016 and it increased to 14262 votes in 2021. He was defeated by K. Ansalan of CPI(M) in both elections.

    T. P. Chandrasekharan was an Indian politician who was the founder of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP), a breakaway group of Communist Party of India (Marxist). Born in Onchiyam, a rural village in Kozhikode district in Kerala, he posthumously shot to national prominence after he was hacked to death on 4 May 2012; CPI(M)'s local organization is widely blamed as the perpetrator of the murder.

It claims to uphold real communist ideologies and maintain internal democracy. It was found after T.P. Chandrasekharan, an ex-CPI (M) leader, was expelled from his party in 2008.

    Adv. V. K. Prasanth, popularly known as 'Mayor Bro', is an Indian politician belonging to the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was born and raised at Kazhakootam, Thiruvananthapuram. In 2015, aged 34, he was elected to the Kazhakoottam ward of the city, with a margin of 3,272 votes, the highest majority secured by a candidate in the corporation's history. He went on to become the 44th mayor of Thiruvananthapuram, the largest corporation and capital of Kerala.
