The 2009–10 I-League season began on 1 October 2009 with Mahindra United hosting defending champions Churchill Brothers in Mumbai. The season marked the addition of four new teams, with Lajong, Pune, Salgaocar and Viva Kerala were confirmed to participate in the I-League. With the inception of these four clubs, many club transfers have been undergone within India, and around the world. The length of the regular season will be longer than in previous years, with 26 rounds rather than 22.

The AIFF development team, Pailan Arrows, did not field their team in the competition as they were already an U21-Team in the I-League. The preliminary phase of the 2012 U20 league was held played in three different cities, Kalyani, Mumbai and within the state of Goa. The final round of the competition was held in Kalyani with Pune F.C. Academy coming out as winners.

The 2013 I-League U20 was the fifth season of the Indian I-League U20 competition. The season took place during the I-League break between February and March. The tournament began on 6 March in Jamshedpur at the facilities which are currently used by Tata Football Academy. The stadiums were officially announced on 29 January 2013 as the JRD Tata Sports Complex and the Gopal Maidan.

The team finished runners-up in the Calcutta Football League and were crowned Champions in the I-League. The 2014–15 Indian Federation Cup, also known as the Hero Federation Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 36th edition of the Federation Cup, the main national football cup competition in India. Ten of the eleven I-League clubs participated in the tournament the season with Bharat FC being the excluded club.

The 2014–15 season will be Bharat FC's first season in the I-League and first season in existence.
