2014 Derby City Classic

The 2014 Derby City Classic was a professional pool tournament and the 16th Edition of the Derby City Classic. It took place from January 24 to February 1, 2014, in Horseshoe Southern Indiana in Elizabeth, Indiana. Competitions were held in the disciplines nine-ball, ten-ball, one-pocket, straight, and bank pool. The Master of the Table awarded for the best player overall was won by Dennis Orcollo. [1] [2]

Nine-ball

The nine-ball competition took place from January 29 to February 1. With a total prize money of over $64,000, of which the winner received $16,000, was the most highest prize fund for any competition in the Derby City Classic. The ranking of the 45 best-placed players is given below.

Efren Manalang Reyes, popularly known by the nicknames "Bata" and "The Magician", is a Filipino professional pool player, who is widely regarded as the greatest pool player of all time. In 2003 he was inducted into the Billiard Congress of America's Hall of Fame. A winner of over 100 international titles, Reyes was the first player to win the WPA World Championships in two different pool disciplines. The Derby City Classic is an annual pool convention and tournament held every January at the Caesars Southern Indiana casino in Elizabeth, Indiana, near Louisville, Kentucky. It is eight days long and offers various disciplines of competition for pool players of all caliber. It is often referred to as the DCC.

Roberto Gomez is a professional pocket billiards player from Zamboanga City, Philippines. Known for 9-ball, he competed in the final of both the 2007 WPA World Nine-ball Championships, and the 2007 World Cup of Pool. The year of 2019 included professional tournaments surrounding table-top cue sports. These events include snooker, pool disciplines and billiards. Whilst these are traditionally singles sports, some matches and tournaments are held as doubles, or team events. The snooker season runs between May and April, whilst the pool and billiards seasons run in the calendar year.

John Morra is a Canadian professional pool player. Morra has represented Canada at the World Cup of Pool on seven occasions, partnering Jason Klatt in 2011, 2012 and 2015, and Alex Pagulayan in 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2019. Morra is a multiple time champion on the Canadian 9-Ball pool tour. He reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Pool Masters. In 2018, Morra switched from playing right handed to left handed due to a shoulder injury. However, he still breaks with a right-handed stroke, as he is unable to generate the required amount of power breaking left-handed.

Competitions were held in the disciplines nine-ball, ten-ball, one-pocket, straight, and bank pool. The event was the 2017 edition of the Derby City Classic.
