The 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships were the national figure skating championships of the United States for the 2013–14 season.

Contents

The event was held in Boston, Massachusetts on January 5–12, 2014. [1] Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing at the senior, junior, novice, intermediate and juvenile levels. [1] The results were part of the U.S. selection criteria for the 2014 Winter Olympics, 2014 World Championships, 2014 World Junior Championships, and 2014 Four Continents Championships.

Overview

The 2014 event was the 100th anniversary of the U.S. Championships and the seventh time that Boston had hosted the competition. Competitors qualified at the Eastern, Midwestern, or Pacific Coast Sectional Championships or earned a bye. [2]

Rippon competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, where he finished 10th. At the junior level, Rippon is a two-time Junior World Champion, the 2007–2008 Junior Grand Prix Final Champion, and the 2008 U.S. junior national champion.

The 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships took place between January 14 and 24 at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, Washington with AT&T as the title sponsor. Skaters competed in four disciplines – men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing – across three levels: senior, junior, and novice. Medals were awarded in four colors: gold (first), silver (second), bronze (third), and pewter (fourth).

Maia Harumi Shibutani is a retired American ice dancer. The siblings have won six titles on the Grand Prix series and stood on the podium at 14 consecutive U.S. Championships, at five levels including eight as seniors. They are two-time members of the US Olympic team, competing at the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics. In 2018, the siblings became the first ice dancers who are both of Asian descent to medal at the Olympics. They are the second sibling duo to ever share an ice dancing Olympic medal, and the first from the United States. The Shibutani siblings are often referred to by their nickname the Shib Sibs.

Simon Shnapir is an American former competitive pair skater. With Marissa Castelli, he is the 2013 Four Continents bronze medalist, the 2009 World Junior bronze medalist, and a two-time U.S. national champion. The pair won a bronze medal in the team event at the 2014 Winter Olympics. After their split in May 2014, Shnapir teamed up with DeeDee Leng and competed in the 2014–15 season.

The 2015 World Junior Figure Skating Championships was an international figure skating competition in the 2014–15 season. The event was held on 2–8 March 2015 at the newly constructed Tondiraba Ice Hall in Tallinn, Estonia. It determined the World Junior champions in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dance.

The 2014 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships was held from January 9 to 15, 2014 at the Canadian Tire Centre, then-named Scotiabank Place. The event determines the national champions of Canada and was organized by Skate Canada, the nation's figure skating governing body as well as sponsored by Canadian Tire. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dancing on the senior, junior, and novice levels. Although the official International Skating Union terminology for female skaters in the singles category is ladies, Skate Canada uses women officially. The results of this competition are among the selection criteria for the 2014 Winter Olympics, 2014 World Championships, the 2014 Four Continents Championships, and the 2014 World Junior Championships.

Polina Edmunds Bast is a retired American figure skater. She is the 2015 Four Continents champion, the 2014 CS U.S. Classic champion, and a two-time U.S. national silver medalist. She represented the United States at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, finishing 9th.

Davis and White are American former ice dancers. The pair are the 2014 Olympic Champion, the 2010 Olympic silver medalist, a two-time World champion, five-time Grand Prix Final champion (2009–2013), three-time Four Continents champion and six-time U.S. national champion (2009–2014). They also won a bronze medal in the team event at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
