It was her second Internazionali BNL d'Italia title, and she won it without dropping a set, without dropping more than three games per set, and without dropping more than four games per match.

Maria Sharapova defeated Simona Halep in the final, 6–4, 6–7(5–7), 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2014 French Open. It was her second French Open title and fifth major title overall. In a final that lasted over three hours, it was the first time since 2001 that the final went to three sets. Halep became the first Romanian to reach the final since Virginia Ruzici in 1980.

Petra Kvitová defeated Eugenie Bouchard in the final, 6–3, 6–0 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 2014 Wimbledon Championships. It was her second Wimbledon title and she lost only one set en route, to Venus Williams in the third round.

Two-time defending champion Serena Williams defeated Caroline Wozniacki in the final, 6–3, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2014 US Open. It was her Open Era-record-equaling sixth US Open singles title and 18th major singles title overall, equaling Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert's tally. She did not lose a set during the tournament for a record-equaling third time, and did not lose more than three games in any set.

The 2015 WTA Finals was a women's tennis tournament at Singapore. It was the 45th edition of the singles event and the 40th edition of the doubles competition. The tournament was contested by eight singles players and eight doubles teams.

Two-time defending champion Serena Williams defeated Simona Halep in the final, 6–3, 6–0 to win the singles tennis title at the 2014 WTA Finals. Williams became the third player to win three consecutive Tour Finals singles titles, and the first since Seles in 1992. During the tournament, she clinched her second consecutive and fourth career year-end world No. 1 ranking. She became the first woman to hold the top ranking for the entire calendar year since Steffi Graf in 1996. This was also Williams' final appearance in the Tour Finals.

The final marked the first time the top two seeds contested the Australian Open final since 2004, in which Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova in straight sets with the score 6–3, 7–6(7–5) to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2015 Australian Open. It was her sixth Australian Open singles title and her 19th major singles title overall.

The 2015 Maria Sharapova tennis season officially began on 4 January 2015 with the start of the 2015 WTA Tour. Sharapova entered the season ranked as world number 2 behind Serena Williams following the completion of the 2014 season.

Serena Williams defeated Lucie Šafářová in the final, 6–3, 6–7(2–7), 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2015 French Open. It was her third French Open title, her 20th major singles title overall, and she completed the triple career Grand Slam with the win. Williams would later describe the victory as the proudest achievement of her career; she suffered from influenza during her title run.

Serena Williams defeated Garbiñe Muguruza in the final, 6–4, 6–4 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 2015 Wimbledon Championships. It was her sixth Wimbledon singles title and her 21st major singles title overall. With the win, Williams completed her second "Serena Slam", having won the preceding US Open, Australian Open and French Open. This also marked the first Channel Slam in women's singles since Williams herself in 2002.

Angelique Kerber defeated the defending champion Serena Williams in the final, 6–4, 3–6, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2016 Australian Open. It was her first major title. Kerber saved a match point en route to the title, in the first round against Misaki Doi; she became the first woman to win a singles major after saving a match point in the first round. She also became the first German to win a major since Steffi Graf at the 1999 French Open. Williams was attempting to equal Graf's Open Era record of 22 major singles titles. Williams' loss also ended her eight-match winning streak in major finals.
