The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I, consisting of eleven schools located in three states of the northeastern United States: Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York.
The Webster Bank Arena is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose arena at 600 Main Street in Bridgeport, Connecticut, built alongside the now demolished The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The arena opened on October 10, 2001, and is managed by Oak View Group. Webster Bank entered into a 10-year $3.5 million agreement with the City of Bridgeport for naming rights of the arena on January 6, 2011.
The Gallagher Center is a 2,400-seat multi-purpose arena at Niagara University's campus in Lewiston, New York. The structure was initially built in 1949 and substantially renovated in 1999. It is the home court of the Niagara Purple Eagles men's basketball and women's basketball and volleyball teams.
The Canisius College Golden Griffins are composed of 16 teams representing Canisius College in intercollegiate athletics. These teams include men's and women's basketball, cross country, track, lacrosse, soccer, and swimming and diving. Men's sports include baseball, ice hockey, and golf. The Purple Eagles, led by 14th year head coach Joe Mihalich, played their home games at the Gallagher Center and were members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They finished the season 19–14, 13–5 in MAAC play win the regular season conference championship. They advanced to the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament where they lost to Iona. As a regular season conference champion who failed to win their conference tournament, they received an automatic bid to the 2013 NIT where they lost in the first round to Maryland.

Juan'ya Green is an American basketball player, most recently as a member of Al Sadd in the Qatari Basketball League. He completed his college career in 2016 after having split his career playing for Niagara University and Hofstra University. Green went unselected in the ensuing 2016 NBA draft.

Kahlil Dukes is an American basketball player for BC Balkan Botevgrad of the Bulgarian National Basketball League. He played college basketball for the University of Southern California (USC) and Niagara University and was named the 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year.
