The NAB AFL Rising Star award is given annually to a stand out young player in the Australian Football League. [1] The award was won by Jesse Hogan of Melbourne who polled 49 votes, beating Carlton's Patrick Cripps who finished on 41 votes. [2]

AFL Rising Star

The NAB AFL Rising Star award is given annually to a standout young player in the Australian Football League (AFL). The first award was made in 1993. Since 2007, the winner has been presented with the Ron Evans Medal. It was originally known as the Norwich Rising Star award due to sponsorship reasons from 1993 to 1999, Ansett sponsored the award in 2000 and 2001 and the National Australia Bank (NAB) has been the major sponsor since 2002.

Australian Football League Australian rules football competition

The Australian Football League (AFL) is the pre-eminent professional competition of Australian rules football in Australia. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body, and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. The league was founded as the Victorian Football League (VFL) as a breakaway from the previous Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing in 1897. Originally comprising only teams based in the Australian state of Victoria, the competition's name was changed to the Australian Football League for the 1990 season, after expanding to other states throughout the 1980s.

Eligibility

Every round, an Australian Football League rising star nomination is given to a stand out young player. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be under 21 on 1 January of that year and have played 10 or fewer senior games before the start of the season; a player who is suspended may be nominated, but is not eligible to win the award. At the end of the year, one of the 23 nominees is the winner of award. [1]

Sam Frost Australian rules footballer

Samuel Frost is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). A utility, 1.94 metres tall and weighing 95 kilograms (209 lb), Frost has the ability to play as either a forward or defender, and is capable of also playing in the ruck. He entered top-level football early when he played as a bottom-aged player for the Sandringham Dragons in the TAC Cup. His final year as a junior saw him play in both the winning grand final for Sandringham and the winning final for Vic Metro in the 2011 AFL Under 18 Championships. The NAB AFL Rising Star award is given annually to a stand out young player in the Australian Football League. The 2014 winner was Lewis Taylor. Taylor polled one more vote than Marcus Bontempelli, making it the closest ever count.

The first game was played on Thursday, 2 April, and the Grand Final was played on Saturday, 3 October, with Hawthorn defeating West Coast by 46 points to win its 13th premiership and its third in successive years.

Jesse Hogan is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Fremantle Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). A key forward, Hogan is 1.95 metres tall and weighs 100 kilograms (220 lb). He was a standout basketballer and footballer at a young age, representing Western Australia in both sports and played in the West Australian Football League colts competition with the Claremont Football Club. He was rewarded with All-Australian selection as a junior in the 2012 AFL Under 18 Championships and in turn, he was drafted by Melbourne with the second selection in the 2012 mini-draft, meaning he was ineligible to play in the 2013 AFL season. After a back injury ruined his 2014 season, he made his AFL debut in the 2015 season and won the Ron Evans Medal as the AFL Rising Star. In his first two playing years for Melbourne, he was the leading goalkicker in both seasons. In October 2018, he was acquired by Fremantle in a trade that sent him back home to Western Australia.

Angus Brayshaw is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). The AFL Rising Star is an Australian rules football award presented annually to the player adjudged the best young player in the Australian Football League (AFL) for the year. The recipient of the AFL Rising Star has been awarded the Ron Evans Medal since 2007, named in honour of the former AFL Commission chairman following his death that year.

The 2018 Australian Football League season was the 122nd season of the elite Australian rules football competition and the 29th under the name 'Australian Football League', having switched from 'Victorian Football League' after 1989. There were 18 teams competing in the league, the same as the previous six seasons. The first game was played on Thursday, 22 March, and the season concluded with the 2018 AFL Grand Final on Saturday, 29 September between West Coast and Collingwood. West Coast defeated Collingwood by five points, winning their fourth premiership.

The 2018 Collingwood Football Club season was the club's 122nd season of senior competition in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club also fielded its reserves team in the VFL and a women's team in the AFL Women's competition.

The NAB AFL Rising Star award is given annually to a standout young player in the Australian Football League (AFL). Jaidyn Stephenson of Collingwood was the winner with 52 votes ahead of Tom Doedee of Adelaide who received 42.
