The 2015 New Democratic Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election was held March 7, 2015 in St. John's. [1] The election was prompted by Lorraine Michael's announcement on January 6, 2015, that she would step down as leader of the party after a successor was chosen. [3] All NDP members were able to cast ballots by phone or online between February 25 and March 5, 2015, or in person at the party's convention on March 7, 2015. [4] Earle McCurdy was elected with 68% support on the first ballot. [5]

Chris Bruce

Bruce is a former NDP executive member who quit the executive following the 2013 caucus revolt against Lorraine Michael's leadership. He works as a barista. Advocates electoral finance reform which would include banning corporate and union donations to political parties; supports pharmacare, and increasing taxes on incomes above $70,000. Mike Goosney

Goosney steelworker, former Labrador City town councillor. Advocates giving people more of a voice in politics and emphasizes health care, particularly improving service in rural areas. [4]

Earle McCurdy

McCurdy is former president of the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union (1993-2014). [17] [18] Endorsed by NDP MP Ryan Cleary and MHA Gerry Rogers. Advocates solutions to the province's fiscal situation and correcting the "democratic deficit" in government. [4] [19]

Gerry Rogers is a Canadian documentary filmmaker and politician. She was leader of the Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party from 2018 until 2019. She served in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly as NDP MHA for the electoral district of St. John’s Centre from 2011 to 2019. She became the party's leader after winning the April 2018 leadership election. She resigned as party leader prior to the 2019 provincial election and did not seek re-election.

Earle McCurdy is a former leader of the Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party and a former labour leader in Newfoundland and Labrador. He was president of the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union from 1993 to 2014, succeeding founding president Richard Cashin. Previously, McCurdy was the union's secretary-treasurer for 13 years, from 1980 to 1993.

The New Democratic Party of Newfoundland and Labrador held their leadership convention from May 26–28, 2006. This leadership election was called to elect a new leader to succeed Jack Harris, who had served as party leader since 1992. Harris had also served as Member of the House of Assembly for Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi since a 1990 by-election. In the end Lorraine Michael won the party's leadership, defeating writer Nina Patey. Michael won 107 votes to Patey’s 5. Lorraine Michael, later went on to win the by-election held in Harris' district, Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi and became one of two NDP MHAs in the House of Assembly.

2015 Newfoundland and Labrador general election

The 2015 Newfoundland and Labrador general election, held on November 30, 2015, elected members of the 48th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Progressive Conservative Party which had governed since 2003 election, was defeated by the Liberal Party, which won a majority in the new assembly.

2019 Newfoundland and Labrador general election

The 2019 Newfoundland and Labrador general election was held on May 16, 2019, to elect members of the 49th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The 2018 New Democratic Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election was held in St. John's in April 2018 to nominate the successor of New Democratic Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leader Earle McCurdy, who resigned as head of the party effective September 30, 2017. Former leader Lorraine Michael was appointed interim leader before the convention. The deadline to register as a candidate was February 28, 2018. The deadline to become a party member to vote in the election was March 9, 2018. Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh delivered the keynote address. St. John's Centre MHA Gerry Rogers won the nomination on the first ballot. Rogers therefore became the first openly LGBT person to lead a political party in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The next New Democratic Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election will be held at an unannounced date to select a successor to Alison Coffin, who resigned after the New Democratic Party voted to hold a leadership review. The details of the leadership convention have not yet been publicly announced.

The 2019 New Democratic Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election was prompted by Gerry Rogers' announcement on February 12, 2019 that she would be resigning from politics. Economist Alison Coffin won by acclamation on March 1, 2019, as she was the only declared candidate. She was confirmed as the party's new leader at a news conference on March 5, 2019.

Lela Margaret Ann Evans is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 2019 provincial election. She represents the electoral district of Torngat Mountains as a New Democrat, having previously been elected as a Progressive Conservative. She was re-elected in the 2021 provincial election.

2021 Newfoundland and Labrador general election

The 2021 Newfoundland and Labrador general election was held on March 25, 2021, to elect members of the 50th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The 2020 Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election was held due to the announcement by Dwight Ball on February 17, 2020 that he would be resigning as Liberal Party leader and Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador effective when the party elects his successor. Provincial legislation requires that a general election must occur no more than one year following a Premier's resignation.
