The 2015 U.S. Classic, officially the 2015 Secret U.S. Classic, is the 32nd edition of the U.S. Classic and was held on July 25, 2015 at Sears Centre Arena in Chicago. [1]

Contents

The event served as a qualification event to the 2015 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships, later in August 2015. It was the second event during the 2015 USA Gymnastics elite season.

Event information

The 32nd edition of the U.S. Classic, in 2015, was held at the Sears Centre Arena, just outside Chicago, in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. This is the third time it was held at the arena but the event has been held in Chicago since 2010, when it was hosted at the UIC Pavilion.

The Junior session started at 13:00pm CT and the Senior session started at 18:30pm CT.

Sponsorship

The 2015 U.S. Classic was the third edition of the event under the title sponsorship of American deodorant brand, Secret.

Broadcast

Universal Sports own the broadcasting rights to all USA Gymnastics events and broadcast the Senior competition only, as normal.[ citation needed ]

Qualification to the Classic

To advance to the U.S. Classic and qualify to international elite status, a gymnast must have either; [2]

Qualification to Nationals

The 2015 U.S. Classic was a qualifier to the 2015 P&G U.S. National Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. In order to qualify to U.S. Nationals from this year's classic, senior gymnasts must score 54.00 and juniors must score 52.50.

Lauren Zoe Hernandez is an American artistic gymnast. In the individual events, Hernandez earned the silver medal on the balance beam. She returned to training in late 2018 and expressed interest in making a comeback to earn a spot on the U.S. women's gymnastic team for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, but she did not qualify for the Olympic Gymnastics Trials.

Jordan Lucella Elizabeth Chiles is an American artistic gymnast. She represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal in the team event. She was a member of the team that won gold at the 2022 World Championships. Individually, she is the 2022 World vault silver medalist and floor silver medalist. She has been a member of the United States women's national gymnastics team since 2013.

Artistic gymnastics is a type of gymnastics in which athletes compete with short routines on various equipment, including bars, beams, rings, pommel horses, vaulting tables, and on a sprung floor. Gymnastics is well-established in the United States, where available programs range from recreational classes, casual summer camps, and children's leagues; to highly competitive collegiate leagues and four national teams. Although this is not unique to the United States, due to the physically demanding nature of the sport there are fewer options for adult gymnastics outside the elite level, although local parks and recreation departments often have limited offerings.

The 2016 United States women's national gymnastics team season refers to the competitions that the United States women's national gymnastics team will participate in during the 2016 artistic gymnastics season. The 2015 World Team champions, the U.S. team go into 2016 as the favorites to become 2016 Olympic Champions; hoping to defend their 2012 Olympic title.

Emma Lauren Malabuyo is a Filipino-American artistic gymnast who represents the Philippines in international competition. She is a five-time member of the U.S. National Team and was an alternate for the 2020 Olympic team. She is currently competing for the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team.

Trinity Lemyra Thomas is an American artistic gymnast and a four-time National Team member (2016–20). She was a member of the gold medal-winning team at the 2018 Pan American Gymnastics Championships, where she also won silver medals in the individual all-around and on the uneven bars, as well as the bronze medalist on balance beam and floor exercise at the 2017 national championships. She was a member of the Florida Gators women's gymnastics team. One of the most successful NCAA gymnasts in history, Thomas finished her collegiate career with a record-tying 28 perfect-10 scores and a record-breaking five Gym Slams.

The 2017 U.S. Classic, known as the 2017 Secret U.S. Classic for sponsorship reasons, was the 34th edition of the U.S. Classic gymnastics tournament. The competition was held on July 29, 2017, at the Sears Centre Arena in the Hoffman Estates suburb of Chicago, Illinois.

Yelena Aleksandrovna "Alyona" Shchennikova is an American artistic gymnast. She was a member of the U.S. National Team from 2017–19 and was the all-around champion at the 2017 U.S. Classic. She currently competes for Louisiana State in collegiate gymnastics.

Maile O'Keefe is an American artistic gymnast. She was a member of the U.S. National Team and is the 2016 and 2017 U.S. Junior National Champion. She is the 2023 NCAA all-around champion as well as a 4x NCAA event champion.

Jordan Skylar Bowers is an American artistic gymnast and was part of the United States women's national gymnastics team. She won the junior all-around gold medals at the 2018 Pacific Rim Championships and the 2018 Junior Pan American Championships. She is currently competing for the Oklahoma Sooners in NCAA gymnastics.

Sloane Blakely is an American collegiate artistic gymnast and was a member of the United States women's national gymnastics team. She is currently competing for the Florida Gators in NCAA gymnastics. She is the older sister of gymnast Skye Blakely.
