The 2016 Championships of the Small States of Europe was the first edition of the biennial competition in outdoor track and field organised by the Athletic Association of Small States of Europe (AASE). [1] The competition was launched to take place in the years between the Games of the Small States of Europe. It was held on 11 June 2016 at the Matthew Micallef St. John Athletics Stadium in Marsa, Malta. A total of 22 events were contested by around 300 athletes from 18 nations. [2] [3]

European Athletics Championships International athletics tournament

The European Athletics Championships is a biennial athletics event organised by the European Athletics Association. First held in 1934 in Turin, the Championships have taken place every four years, with a few exceptions. Since 2010, they have been organised every two years, and when they coincide with the Summer Olympics, the marathon and racewalking events are not contested. From 2018, European Championships not held in an Olympic year will form part of the European Championships, a new quadrennial multi-sport event designed and held by individual European sports federations.

Games of the Small States of Europe Multi-sport event

The Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) is a biennial multi-sport event, launched by the Republic of San Marino, organized by and featuring the National Olympic Committees of nine European small states since 1985. The Games are held at the end of May or beginning of June and feature competition in nine Summer Olympic sports.

The 2003 Games of the Small States of Europe, or the Xth Games of the Small States of Europe, were held in Valletta, Malta from June 2 to June 7, 2003. Valletta previously hosted the games in 1993. Malta was not due to host the Games again until 2009, but a strong bid helped them to gain the games six years early. Administration of the games was done jointly by the Maltese Ministry of Education and the Malta Olympic Committee. The games were declared open by President Guido de Marco on June 2.

2012 European Athletics Championships International athletics championship event

The 2012 European Athletics Championships were held in Helsinki, Finland between 27 June and 1 July 2012. This edition marks the beginning of a new two-year cycle of the European Athletics Championships which were previously held every four years.

2010 European Team Championships Athletics team competitions

The second SPAR European Team Championships took place on 19 and 20 June 2010. The track and field athletics tournament run by European Athletics was the successor of the old European Cup competition which was held annually until 2008. The 2010 Super League was once again won by Russia, with Great Britain second, and Germany finishing in third.

2016 European Athletics Championships International athletics championship event

The 2016 European Athletics Championships was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, between 6 and 10 July 2016. It was the first time the Netherlands hosted the event.

The 2004 European Winter Throwing Challenge was held on 13 and 14 March at St. John Athletic Stadium in Marsa, Malta. It was the fourth edition of the athletics competition for throwing events organised by the European Athletics Association. The 2004 event was the last to use the challenge name, as subsequent editions were known as European Cup Winter Throwing events. A total of 147 athletes from 28 countries entered the competition.

Athletics at the 2015 European Games took place at the Baku National Stadium and on the streets of Baku, Azerbaijan.

Mario Bonello is a retired Maltese athlete who specialised in the sprinting events. He represented his country at two Olympic Games, in 1996 and 2000, as well as two outdoor and one indoor World Championships. In addition, he won multiple medals at the Games of the Small States of Europe.

Rebecca Camilleri is a Maltese athlete specialising in the long jump and sprinting events. She represented her country at the World Indoor Championships, as well as two Commonwealth Games. In addition, she won multiple medals at the Games of the Small States of Europe.

Yasemin Can Kenyan-Turkish long-distance runner

Yasemin Can is a European champion Kenyan female long distance runner representing Turkey competing in the 5,000 m and 10,000 m events. She is a member of Enkaspor in Istanbul.

Izmir Smajlaj is an Albanian athlete who specialises in the long jump. He won the gold medal at the 2017 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, the first gold medal for his country at a major athletics competition, setting a new national and personal record of 8.08 metres in 2017.

2017 European Athletics Team Championships

The seventh European Athletics Team Championships were held from 23 to 25 June 2017.

Sarah Busuttil is a sprinter competing internationally for Malta. Busuttil started her career as a footballer but later transitioned to athletics in late 2014. She competed in the 4 × 100 m relay at the European Team Championships – 3rd League. At this event, Busuttil together with Janet Richard, Rachel Fitz and Charlotte Wingfield set the Maltese record on 21 June 2015.

The Championships of the Small States of Europe (CSSE) is a biennial competition in outdoor track and field organised by the Athletic Association of Small States of Europe (AASE). First held in 2016, the competition is held on alternate years with the Games of the Small States of Europe.

2018 Championships of the Small States of Europe International athletics championship event

The 2018 Championships of the Small States of Europe was the second edition of the biennial competition in outdoor track and field organised by the Athletic Association of Small States of Europe (AASE). It was held on 9 June 2018 at the Sportplatz Rheinwiese in Schaan, Liechtenstein. A total of 22 events were contested by around 250 athletes from 18 nations.

2021 Championships of the Small States of Europe European athletics competition

The 2021 Championships of the Small States of Europe was the third edition of the biennial competition Championships of the Small States of Europe organised by the Athletic Association of Small States of Europe (AASE). It was held on 5 June 2021 in Serravalle, San Marino. Originally scheduled for 2020, it was postponed to 2021 due to Covid-19.

2022 Championships of the Small States of Europe International athletics championship event

The 2022 Championships of the Small States of Europe was the fourth edition of the biennial competition in outdoor track and field organised by the Athletic Association of Small States of Europe (AASE). It was held on 11 June 2022 at the Matthew Micallef St. John Athletics Stadium in Marsa, Malta. A total of 22 events were contested.
