The LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds are the defending regular season and tournament champions.

St. Francis Brooklyn won the Regular season Championship by going 6-0-1 in conference play and won the Tournament championship by defeating Sacred Heart and Saint Francis (PA). St. Francis Brooklyn will play against Dartmouth in the NCAA tournament.

The 2017–18 LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds men's basketball team represented The Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Blackbirds, led by first-year head coach Derek Kellogg, played their home games at the Steinberg Wellness Center, with several home games at the Barclays Center, as members of the Northeast Conference. They finished the season 18–17, 10–8 in NEC play to finish in a tie for fourth place. As the No. 4 seed in the NEC tournament, they defeated St. Francis Brooklyn, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Wagner to become NEC Tournament champions. They earned the NEC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the First Four to Radford.

The 2017–18 Wagner Seahawks men's basketball team represented Wagner College during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Seahawks were led by sixth-year head coach Bashir Mason. They played their home games at Spiro Sports Center on the school's Staten Island campus as members of the Northeast Conference. The Seahwawks finished the season 23–10, 14–4 in NEC play to win the NEC regular season championship. In the NEC tournament, they defeated Central Connecticut and Robert Morris before losing to LIU Brooklyn in the championship game. As a regular season conference champion who did not win their conference tournament, they received an invitation to the National Invitation Tournament where they lost in the first round to Baylor.

The 2019–20 St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers men's basketball team represented St. Francis College during the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team's head coach was Glenn Braica, who was in his 10th season as the head men's basketball coach. The Terriers played their home games at the Generoso Pope Athletic Complex in Brooklyn Heights, New York as members of the Northeast Conference. They finished the season 13–18, 7–11 in NEC play to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the NEC tournament to Robert Morris.

The 2019–20 Northeast Conference men's basketball season began with practices in October 2019, followed by the start of the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season in November. Conference play started in January and ended in February 2020.

The 2019–20 NEC women's basketball season will begin with practices in October 2019, followed by the start of the 2019–20 NCAA Division I women's basketball season in November. Conference play will start in January 2020 and concluded in March with the 2020 Northeast Conference women's basketball tournament.
