The 2016 Philippine National Games was a national multi-sport event. A series of smaller multi-sport events were held in three separate venues and legs in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Some sports also served as qualifying events [1] for National Finals to be hosted by the province of Pangasinan from March 7–11, 2016. [2]

Sports

There are 10 sports events which also served as qualifiers for the finals to be held in 2016 which were held in all three legs of the games. Only athletes from the hosting region are eligible to participate in these qualifying events. (e.g. Athletes from Luzon can only participate in the Luzon leg, and so on). The other events can be participated by athletes from any region. The non-qualifying events were scattered across the three legs with the Luzon leg hosting most number of events. [3]

The 2016 Palarong Pambansa was the 59th edition of the annual multi-sporting event for Filipino student-athletes. Athletic associations from the country's 18 regions were competed in different sporting events and discipline. The games were held at the Bicol University Sports Complex, in Albay Province, from April 10–16, 2016.

Nikko Bryan Oreta Huelgas is a Filipino professional triathlete who competes internationally. He is the first Filipino to win a gold medal in the men's individual triathlon event at the Southeast Asian Games securing the feat in the 2015 edition. He also successfully defended his title at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games.

The triathlon competition at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines was held at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. from 1 to 2 December 2019. The competitions were won by John Chicano and Kim Mangrobang, both of the Philippines.

The 2023 Palarong Pambansa, officially known as the 63rd Palarong Pambansa, also known as Palaro 2023 and Marikina 2023, was held in Marikina, Metro Manila, from July 29 to August 5, 2023. Student-athletes from 17 athletic associations representing the 17 regions of the Philippines competed in different sporting events and disciplines.
