The Russian National Freestyle Wrestling Championships 2016 were held in Yakutsk, Sakha-Yakutia, Russia in the Triumph Arena from 27 to 29 May 2016. [1]
At the end of the 57 kg quarterfinal wrestling match between Lebedev and Musukaev the referees awarded the victory to Viktor Lebedev. However, after the match the Russian Championships wrestling commission considered mistakes of the referee and awarded the victory to Ismail Musukaev (4-2). Even so, Lebedev remained in the semifinals. [2] [3] [4]
After the incident, the Dagestani team walked out, along with others, including many members of Chechen team. [5]
In the 57 kg final, following another controversial victory for Lebedev over Aleksandr Bogomoev, the commission decided award gold medals to both. [6]

Viktor Nikolaevich Lebedev is a Russian freestyle wrestler from the Sakha Republic, two time World Champion, multiple international tournaments winner. He won the gold medal at the 2015 Summer European Games in the Freestyle men's 57 kg weight category.
Abdulrashid Bulachevich Sadulaev is a Russian freestyle wrestler who competes at 97 kilograms and formerly competed at 86 kilograms. Sadulaev is widely regarded as the most dominant active freestyle wrestler in the world.
Shamil Magomedovich Kudiyamagomedov is a retired Russian Naturalized Italian amateur wrestler of Avar heritage, who won the gold medal in men's freestyle 86 kg at the 2015 Military World Games. He is Russian national champion (2013), Italian national champion (2018), silver medalist of Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan. Junior World Championships bronze medalist 2012. He won bronze medal with an injured leg. International Master of Sports in Freestyle Wrestling. He competed in the freestyle 84 kg event at the 2013 World Wrestling Championships, after defeated Adrian Jaoude from Brazil in the Round of 64, he was eliminated by Olympic bronze medalist Ehsan Lashgari in the Round of 32. In 1/2 final European Championships U23 he lost 7-6 his teammate of Magomedgadzhi Khatiyev, but went on to wrestle back and win a bronze medal against Fatih Erdin of Turkey. At the Memorial Heydar Aliyev 2014 he beat in final Ehsan Lashgari. In 2016 he won European Championships. In 2020 Shamil announced his retirement
The Russian National Freestyle Wrestling Championships 2015 (World Team Trials) were held in Kaspiysk, Dagestan, Russia in the Ali Aliyev Center, from 8–10 May 2015. The championships were attended by 6-7,000 spectators.
