He entered the NBA directly out of high school, being drafted with the 40th overall pick by the Golden State Warriors in the 2005 NBA draft. In 2007, he was named the NBA Most Improved Player. During his time with the Warriors, Ellis was one of the best scorers in the league, averaging close to 25 points per game on two occasions.

He currently ranks eighth in NBA history in career three-point field goal percentage.

The 1992–93 NBA season was the Mavericks' thirteenth season in the National Basketball Association. In the 1992 NBA draft, the Mavericks selected Jim Jackson out of Ohio State University with the fourth overall pick. However, Jackson held out most of his rookie season due to a contract dispute, and refused to play for the Mavericks. The dismantling of the 1980s Mavericks continued as Fat Lever missed the entire season with a knee injury. After a 1–3 start to the season, the Mavericks went on a 12-game losing streak between November and December, posted a 15-game losing streak between December and January, lost eight consecutive games between January and February, and then suffered a dreadful 19-game losing streak between February and March, which left them with the worst record in NBA history as they stood 4–57 through 61 games. Head coach Richie Adubato was fired after a 2–27 start, and was replaced with assistant Gar Heard as an interim coach. The team held a 4–45 record at the All-Star break during their 19-game losing streak.

Kevin Duane "Yogi" Ferrell Jr. is an American professional basketball player for Budućnost of the Montenegro Prva A Liga and the Adriatic League. He played college basketball at Indiana University.

The 1996–97 NBA season was the Mavericks' 17th season in the National Basketball Association. The Mavericks had the ninth overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft, and selected Samaki Walker from the University of Louisville. In the off-season, the team signed free agents Chris Gatling, Oliver Miller, and former Mavs guard Derek Harper, and acquired Eric Montross from the Boston Celtics, and signed undrafted rookie guard Erick Strickland. Under new head coach Jim Cleamons, the Mavericks struggles continued with a 4–10 start in November. With the team not showing any improvement, they traded All-Star guard Jason Kidd to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for second-year star Michael Finley, Sam Cassell and A.C. Green in late December. The Mavericks continued to struggle as they held a 16–28 record at the All-Star break.

The 2018–19 Dallas Mavericks season was the 39th season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA). With an overtime loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on March 18, the Mavericks would once again have a losing season and not make the playoffs for the third consecutive year.

This was the first season since 1997–1998 in which Dirk Nowitzki was not on the Mavericks roster as he retired in 2019. Nowitzki spent his entire 21-year career with the Mavericks, setting an NBA record.

The 2020–21 Dallas Mavericks season was the 41st season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Mavericks clinched the Southwest division for the first time since the 2009-10 season following a 110–90 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on May 7, 2021. However, the Mavericks lost in the first round to the Los Angeles Clippers for the second consecutive season in seven games.
