2018 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship qualification (CEV)

The CEV qualification for the 2018 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship saw member nations compete for seven places at the finals in Italy and Bulgaria.^[1]

Pools composition

39 CEV national teams entered qualification.^[2]

First round

7 Small Countries Division teams participated in the first round. The first round also acted as the 2017 European Championship Small Countries Division qualification round. Teams were seeded following the serpentine system according to their final ranking of 2015 European Championship Small Countries Division. But, Northern Ireland and Iceland were switched between the pools as Iceland were drawn as the 2nd hosts alongside Luxembourg who applied to hosts.^[3] Rankings are shown in brackets.

Second round

The six hosts were drawn as heads of series in one of the six pools (from left to right, A–B–C–D–E–F). The remaining participating teams were grouped in five sub-groups – each one including six teams – according to the CEV National Team Ranking as of 19 October 2015^[4] – i.e. when National Federations registered for participation in the World Championship qualification – and drawn accordingly into one of the six pools (from left to right, A–B–C–D–E–F). Rankings are shown in brackets except hosts. The pools were confirmed on 26 October 2016.^[5]

If the tie continues as per the point ratio between two teams, the priority will be given to the team which won the last match between them. When the tie in points ratio is between three or more teams, a new classification of these teams in the terms of points 1, 2 and 3 will be made taking into consideration only the matches in which they were opposed to each other.

Match won 3–0 or 3–1: 3 match points for the winner, 0 match points for the loser
Match won 3–2: 2 match points for the winner, 1 match point for the loser

The 2018 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship was the 19th staging of the FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship, contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The final tournament was held in Italy and Bulgaria from 9 to 30 September 2018. For the first time, the tournament was jointly-hosted by more than one country. The final six was hosted by Italy at the Pala Alpitour in Turin.

The European Qualification Tournament for the 2016 Men's Olympic Volleyball Tournament was held in Berlin, Germany from 5 to 10 January 2016. Russia won the tournament by beating France 3–1, and qualified for the Summer Olympics. Sergey Tetyukhin was selected the most valuable player.

The 2016 FIVB Volleyball World League was the 27th edition of the annual men's international volleyball tournament which was played by a record of 36 teams from 16 June to 17 July 2016. The Group 1 final round was held in Kraków, Poland. After being runners-up on five occasions, Serbia finally claimed their first World League after prevailing over Brazil in straight sets. The defending champions France claimed their first ever bronze medal at the World League after a fast victory in straight sets against Italy. Marko Ivović was elected the most valuable player.

The NORCECA qualification for the 2018 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship saw member nations compete for five places at the finals in Italy and Bulgaria. The top three teams from the 2017 Men's NORCECA Volleyball Championship, plus two teams from the final four qualified for the 2018 World Championship. Therefore, the first two rounds of the 2018 World Championship qualification also acted as qualifiers for the 2017 NORCECA Championship.

The CEV qualification for the 2018 FIVB Women's Volleyball World Championship will see member nations compete for eight places at the finals in Japan.

The 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League was the 28th edition of the annual men's international volleyball tournament played by 36 teams between 2 June and 8 July. The Group 1 Final Round was held in Curitiba, Brazil.

The 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix was the 25th edition of the annual women's international volleyball tournament played by 32 teams between 7 July and 6 August. The Group 1 Final Round was held in Nanjing, China.

The 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women's Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournaments, also known as FIVB Tokyo Volleyball Qualification, were the six volleyball tournaments that were contested by 24 women's national teams of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), where the top teams earned a place in the 2020 Summer Olympics. The tournament was held from 1 to 4 August 2019.

The 2021 Men's European Volleyball Championship was the 32nd edition of the Men's European Volleyball Championship, organised by Europe's governing volleyball body, CEV. For the second time, the EuroVolley was held in four countries: Poland, Czech Republic, Estonia and Finland. The number of national teams that participated in the event remained to 24.

The 2021 FIVB Volleyball Women's U20 World Championship was the 21st edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women's U20 World Championship, contested by the women's national teams under the age of 20 of the members of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The final tournament was held in Belgium and Netherlands, making it the first time that the tournament was jointly hosted by more than one country.
