It was Federer's third Miami Open title, 26th Masters 1000 singles title and 91st singles title overall. He saved two match points in the quarterfinals against Tomáš Berdych. This marked the third time Federer won the Sunshine Double, previously accomplishing the feat in 2005 and 2006. It was Nadal's fifth runner-up finish without winning the title.
