The 2019 FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship was originally to be the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2020 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup. The tournament would have been held in Beirut, Lebanon from 5 to 12 April 2020. [1] The top four teams would have represented FIBA Asia at the Under-17 Basketball World Cup in Bulgaria. However it was cancelled by FIBA due to the coronavirus pandemic in China. Instead it was determined by FIBA rankings.
Each of FIBA Asia's six subzones gets one berth or two each, and FIBA Oceania gets 2 births. The remaining 4 births include one host nation and three for the subzones contributed by the top 3 Asian nations of the previous champion.

The FIBA Asia Cup is an international basketball tournament which takes place every four years between the men's national teams of Asia and Oceania.
The AfroBasket is the men's basketball continental championship contested by the senior national teams of Africa, played once every four years.
The basketball qualification for the Summer Olympics men's basketball tournament occurred from 2006–2008; all five FIBA zones sent in teams.
The 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification began in earnest at the 2011 Caribbean Championships, a qualifier to the 2012 Centrobasket, which was in itself a qualifier to the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship. The winners of the 2012 Olympic basketball tournament, the United States, qualified outright. The USA joined the host nation Spain, which was earlier elected to host the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in July 2009.

This was the return of the tournament after a two-year hiatus since the 2013 edition.
The 2017 FIBA Asia Cup was the 29th continental basketball championship in Asia. The tournament was organised by FIBA Asia. It took place from 8 to 20 August 2017, a week earlier from the initial scheduled date, in Lebanon. The Nouhad Nawfal Arena with a capacity of 8,000 seats hosted the tournament's matches.
The 2017 FIBA Women's Asia Cup was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia and FIBA Oceania at the 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Spain. The tournament was held from 23 to 29 July in Bangalore, India. Before this edition, the tournament was known as the FIBA Asia Championship for Women, and only involved FIBA Asia members. FIBA Oceania teams Australia and New Zealand, as well as Fiji competed in the tournament for the first time.

The 2018 FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2019 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup. The tournament, which was also the 24th edition of the biennial competition, was held in Bangalore, India from 28 October to 3 November. The top four teams qualified and will represent FIBA Asia in the 2019 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Thailand.

However, both Asian Championship and World Cup were cancelled by FIBA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2023 FIBA U16 Asian Championship was the seventh edition of the FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship in the International Basketball Federation's FIBA Asia zone. The tournament was held at the Al-Gharafa Indoor Hall and the Al-Rayyan Indoor Hall in Doha, Qatar, from September 17 to September 24, 2023. It served as a qualifier for the 2024 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup in Turkey, where the top four teams qualified.
The 2024 FIBA Under-18 Asia Cup was an international under-18 basketball competition that was held in Amman, Jordan from 2 to 9 September 2024. The tournament was the 27th edition of the biennial FIBA Under-18 Asia Cup, previously known as the FIBA U18 Asian Championship. The top four teams qualified for and will represent FIBA Asia at the 2025 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup in Switzerland.
