All eight baseball-sponsoring schools in the conference participated in the double-elimination tournament held at Illinois State's Duffy Bass Field in Normal, Illinois. The winner of the tournament, Indiana State, earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. [2]
The league's eight teams were seeded based on conference winning percentage. The four lowest seeded teams played in a single elimination round, with the two winners advancing to the six-team double-elimination bracket.

In the NCAA men's Division I basketball championship or the NCAA women's Division I basketball championship, the "Elite Eight" comprises the final eight teams, representing the regional finals, or national quarterfinals. In Division I and Division III, the Elite Eight consists of the two teams in each of the four regional championship games. The winners advance to the Final Four. Since 1997, when the NCAA trademarked the phrase, in Division II, the Elite Eight consists of the eight winners of the eight Division II regions. Like the Division I Final Four, the Division II Elite Eight games are all held in one predetermined location.
The NCAA Bowling Championship is a sanctioned women's championship in college athletics. Unlike many NCAA sports, only one National Collegiate championship is held each season with teams from Division I, Division II, and Division III competing together. Seventeen teams, nine of them automatic qualifiers and the other eight being at-large selections, are chosen by the NCAA Bowling Committee to compete in the championship. The winner of the tournament receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I baseball tournament. After Coastal Carolina University hosts the competition in Conway, South Carolina, in 2019, the tournament will move to a neutral site, Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, AL, from 2020 to 2024.

The 1984 NCAA Division I baseball season, play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) began in the spring of 1984. The season progressed through the regular season and concluded with the 1984 College World Series. The College World Series, held for the thirty eighth time in 1984, consisted of one team from each of eight regional competitions and was held in Omaha, Nebraska, at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium as a double-elimination tournament. Cal State Fullerton claimed the championship for the second time.
The 2015 NCAA Division I baseball tournament began on Friday, May 29, 2015, as part of the 2015 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64-team double-elimination tournament concluded with the 2015 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, which began on June 13 and ended on June 24 with the Virginia Cavaliers upsetting the defending champion Vanderbilt Commodores 4–2 in the decisive Game 3 and thereby avenging their CWS Finals loss to Vanderbilt the previous year.

The 2019 Ohio Valley Conference baseball tournament was held from May 21 through 26. The top eight regular season finishers met in the double-elimination tournament, held at Rent One Park in Marion, Illinois. The tournament champion, Jacksonville State, earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division I baseball tournament Among current members, Austin Peay has won the most championships, with six, while Belmont, SIU Edwardsville ,and Tennessee–Martin have never won championships. The tournament began in 1979.
