The 2019 Tour of the Basque Country was a road cycling stage race, that took place between 8 and 13 April 2019 in Spain. It was the 59th edition of Tour of the Basque Country and the 15th race of the 2019 UCI World Tour. [1] Ion Izagirre of Spain was the winner.
As the Tour of the Basque Country was a UCI World Tour event, all eighteen UCI WorldTeams were invited automatically and were obliged to enter a team in the race. Five UCI Professional Continental teams were awarded wildcard places, bringing the number of teams to twenty-three. As each team included seven riders, a total of 161 riders were due to start the first stage. [2]

The Tour of the Basque Country is an annual road cycling stage race held in the Spanish Basque Country in April. It is one of the races that make up the UCI World Tour calendar. As the Basque Country is a mountainous area, there are few flat stages, and thus the event favors those who are strong climbers. The race is characterized by its short stages, rarely exceeding 200 km, and steep ascents. While the ascents featured in the race aren't particularly high compared to other stage races, they are among the steepest seen in professional cycling, some having sections with gradients reaching well above 20%.
Beñat Intxausti Elorriaga is a Spanish former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2007 and 2019 for the Nicolas Mateos, Fuji–Servetto, Euskaltel–Euskadi, Movistar Team, Team Sky and Euskadi–Murias teams.
The 2010 Tour of the Basque Country, was the 50th edition of the Tour of the Basque Country cycling stage race. It started on 5 April and ended on 10 April. Chris Horner won the race 7 seconds ahead of Alejandro Valverde after winning the sixth and final stage which was an individual time trial 8 seconds ahead of Valverde. Valverde's results were subsequently removed after a retroactive suspension was applied.
