2021–22

The 2021 Basketball Champions League Americas season was the 14th edition of the top-tier level professional club basketball competition in the Americas and the second of the Basketball Champions League Americas (BCLA) since launched by FIBA in 2019. It was also the 22nd season of Pan-American top-level competition, as well as the 59th season of South American top-level competition.

Contents

The season began on 31 January 2021 and ended on 13 April 2021. The season ended with a Final Eight tournament that was hosted in Managua, Nicaragua. The defending champions Quimsa were eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Flamengo won its second continental championship [lower-alpha 1] after defeating Real Estelí in the final in Managua. As champions, Flamengo also qualified for the 2022 FIBA Intercontinental Cup.

Team allocation

A total of 12 teams from 6 countries participated in the 2020–21 Basketball Champions League Americas.

[1] Because Peñarol and Aguada from Uruguay were not able to participation due to national restrictions, Minas and Obras Sanitarias were given wild cards by FIBA. Group phase

The 12 teams are drawn into four groups of three, while taking into account geographic location. In each group, teams play against each other home-and-away, in a round-robin format. The group winners and runners-up advance to the quarterfinals, while the remaining team in each group is eliminated.

Playoffs

The playoffs, also called the Final Eight, began on 10 April and ended on 13 April 2021. All games were played in the Alexis Arguello Sports Complex in the Nicaraguan capital Managua.

  1. The title was considered Flamengo's second Pan-American continental title after winning the 2014 FIBA Americas League. However, in 1953, Flamengo finished as co-champions of the South American Championship, along with two other teams.

The 2001 Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol, or 2001 FIBA South American League, was the sixth edition of the top-tier tournament for basketball teams from South America. The tournament began on 12 February 2001 and finished on 13 April 2001. Argentine team Estudiantes de Olavarría won their first title, defeating Gimnasia y Esgrima de Comodoro Rivadavia in the finals. This tournament saw the only appearance of a team from outside South America, the NBDL Ambassadors from the United States, coached by Nate Archibald. The team played their only home game in the stadium of Unión de Santa Fe in the quarterfinals, where they lost the series 1–2 against Brazilian team Flamengo.

The Basketball Champions League Americas (BCLA) is Pan-America's premier men's basketball club competition. Founded in 2019, it replaced the FIBA Americas League as the highest tier league in the continent. The winner of each year's competition qualifies to the annual FIBA Intercontinental Cup.

The 2021 BCL Americas Final was the final game of the 2021 BCL Americas, the 2nd season of the league under its new entity and the 14th of the pan-American premier basketball league organised by FIBA. It was played at the Alexis Arguello Sports Complex in Managua on 14 April 2021. The game was played between Nicaraguan club Real Estelí and Brazilian club Flamengo.

The 2021 BCL Americas Playoffs were the 2nd playoffs of the Basketball Champions League Americas and were the concluding tournament of the 2021 BCL Americas season. The playoffs began on 10 April 2021 and ended on 13 April 2021 with the final. All games were single-elimination and were played at the Alexis Arguello Sports Complex in Managua, Nicaragua.

The 2022–23 Basketball Champions League was the 7th season of the Basketball Champions League (BCL), the premier European professional basketball competition for clubs launched by FIBA. The season began on 3 October 2022 and ended 14 May 2023 with the championship game.
