Iga Natalia Świątek is a Polish professional tennis player. She is currently ranked world No. 1 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), and is the youngest player ranked in the top ten. Świątek was the champion at the 2020 French Open and is the first Pole to win a Grand Slam singles title. With the title, she became the youngest singles champion at the tournament since Rafael Nadal in 2005 and the youngest women's singles champion at a major since 2004.

The 2020 French Open was a Grand Slam tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France. Originally scheduled for 24 May to 7 June, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was first moved to 20 September to 4 October, then later moved back a week further to 27 September to 11 October. Qualifying matches, comprising singles and doubles play, began 21 September. Junior and wheelchair tournaments were also scheduled. Rafael Nadal was the twelve-time and defending champion in men's singles; Ashleigh Barty was the defending champion in women's singles but chose not to defend her title following concerns over the pandemic.

Barbora Krejčíková defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the final, 6–1, 2–6, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2021 French Open. It was her first Major singles title, and her sixth Major title overall. Krejčíková saved a match point in her semifinal match against Maria Sakkari, making her the first player since Justine Henin in 2005 and the third woman in the Open Era to win the French Open after saving a match point. Krejčíková and Pavlyuchenkova were the combined lowest ranked Major finalists since the introduction of computer rankings began in 1975.
Desirae Krawczyk and Joe Salisbury defeated Elena Vesnina and Aslan Karatsev in the final, 2–6, 6–4, [10–5] to win the mixed doubles title at the 2021 French Open. It was Krawczyk's first major title, and was Salisbury's first major title in mixed doubles. Additionally, this was Vesnina's first major final since returning from pregnancy, and Karatsev's first major final in any discipline. Vesnina and Karatsev were the first Russian team to reach the French Open mixed doubles final.
