Oleg Stepanov Russian judoka

Oleg Sergeevich Stepanov was a sambo and judo competitor. Domestically he was mostly known for sambo, which was a very popular sport in the Soviet Union, albeit with a limited international recognition. Between 1958 and 1968 Stepanov won eight national titles in sambo. Internationally he competed in judo, which has similar rules to sambo. The first Soviet judo team was formed in 1962 from the best sambo competitors, including Stepanov, and in 1963 it showed its strength in Europe and Japan. Later Stepanov won bronze medals at the 1964 Olympics and 1965 World Championships, as well as European titles in 1965 and 1966.

Over the centuries, Uzbekistan has had a tradition of fostering equestrians and wrestlers (palvins). Some of the sports that originate in the country are the kurash, which is a type of upright wrestling. Other types of wrestling are belbogli kurash, turon, and boyqurgan all having the same origins. Other popular sports in Uzbekistan are football, basketball, boxing, wrestling, and judo.

David Rudman was a Russian-American wrestler, Sambo world champion, and judo European champion.

Alice Schlesinger Israeli-British judoka

Alice Schlesinger is an Israeli-British retired judoka and sambo competitor. Born in Israel, she competed for that country until 2014, but following a dispute with the national federation she has started competing for Great Britain, of whom she is a citizen through her English-born mother.

2014 World Judo Championships Judo competition

The 2014 World Judo Championships were held in Chelyabinsk, Russia, from 25–31 August 2014, in the Traktor Ice Arena. Each participating country was permitted to present a total of 18 men and women judokas to participate in the 14 weight categories, but no more than two judokas from the same country were allowed to fight in the same category.

Dostonbek Khurshid o'g'li Khamdamov is an Uzbekistani footballer who currently plays for Al-Sailiya, on loan from Pakhtakor Tashkent, as a right or left winger.

Or "Ori" Sasson is a retired Israeli Olympic judoka. He won a bronze medal in the +100 kg category at the 2016 Summer Olympics and another one at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He is the second of two Israelis to win two Olympic medals.

Zelym Kotsoiev is an Azerbaijani judoka. He is a three-time bronze medalist at the European Judo Championships.

The 2022 World Judo Championships will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from 6 to 13 October 2022, concluding with the mixed team event on its final day.

Mohammad Reza Saeidi Iranian professional jujitsu and sambo athlete

Seyed Mohammad Reza Saeidi Madani is an Iranian Judo, Sambo and jiujitsu athlete. He is captain of the Iran Judo national team. He won the bronze medal at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat. He won first medal in the history of Iranian Sambo at the 2021 Sambo World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and the 2nd place at the 2021 Sambo Asian Championships in Uzbekistan and the 3rd place at the 2022 Sambo Asian Championships in Lebanon.He won the Gold Medal at the 2019 Csit World Sport Games in Spain. The 2019 European Sambo Championships is an edition of the European Sambo Championships, organized by the European Sambo Federation. It was held in Gijón, Spain from 17 to 19 May 2019.

Umar Nurmagomedov, is a Russian mixed martial artist currently competing in the Bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He has previously competed in the Eagle Fighting Championship (EFC) and Professional Fighters League (PFL). He is the older brother of Bellator fighter Usman Nurmagomedov and a cousin of former UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. At the age of 19, Umar became World Champion in Combat Sambo under WCSF organization. As of July 19, 2022, he is #14 in the UFC bantamweight rankings.
