On 23 December 2022, at least one policeman was killed and several others injured in a suicide attack in Islamabad's sector I-10 . The reason for the attack is still unclear. It is suspected that the target was red zone area in Islamabad. In red zone area there are multiple international embassies. This area is important therefore it was on target for multiple motives. Similar incident happened in 2013 but it was hostage hostile situation. On friday 23 , 2022 a taxi entered Islamabad through wrongly carved path from captain karnal sher khan road to Islamabad, enabling to enter Islamabad without passing through ict police check point ahead . To counter this problem some police men were stationed there. When this suspected vehicle took that path and ignored police warning to stop. Policemen chased it on patrol bikes . They managed to stop the vehicle near the road that lead to family health hospital i10/4 . Some sources say it was the taxi driver that didn't cooperative and some said there was a female passenger present inside vehicle, later rescue workers disapproved it who picked bodies . When officer commanded to leave vehicle. Suicide bomber detonated explosive device strapped in vehicle. This lead to the martyrdom of that officer and severe injuries to other patrolmen. The paramedics and CTD units arrived and secured the surrounding and installed curtains on both sides. The splinters and body parts were found in 200 meters some from the roofs of houses. Later TTP took responsibility of this attack. Sending the first attack after the cease fire with Pakistan army ended in November. [1] [2]
After the explosion, the law enforcement agency has cordoned off the area. [3]
