The 2022 Sicilian regional election for the renewal of the Sicilian Regional Assembly and the election of the President of Sicily were held on 25 September, 2022. Renato Schifani, candidate of the centre-right coalition, easily won the election, becoming the next president of the region. [1]
The Sicilian Parliament is elected with a mixed system: 62 MPs are chosen with a form of proportional representation using a largest remainder method with open lists and a 5% threshold, while 8 MPs (7+1) are elected using Party bloc vote.

On 18 June a press conference was held between the leaders of Democratic Party, Five Star Movement, Italian Left, Green Europe, Article One, Italian Socialist Party and One Hundred Steps for Sicily. They presented the guidelines for the Progressive camp primary election, which was held on 23 July. The deadline for the candidacies was set for June 30. [2] [3] Caterina Chinnici won the primary election with 44% of votes, ahead of Barbara Floridia (32%) and Claudio Fava (23%). [4]

Primary elections were first introduced in Italy by Lega Nord in 1995, but were seldom used until before the 2005 regional elections.
The Movement for Autonomy is a regionalist and Christian-democratic political party in Italy, based in Sicily. The MpA, whose founder and leader is Raffaele Lombardo, advocates for greater economic development, autonomy and legislative powers for Sicily and the other regions of southern Italy.
The 2013 Basilicata regional election took place on 17–18 November 2013. The election was for all 21 seats, reduced from 30, of the Regional Council of Basilicata and the president of Basilicata, who automatically became a member of the council alongside the second-placed candidate. It was the last election of the 2013 Italian regional elections.

Cateno Roberto Salvatore De Luca is an Italian politician who has been the mayor of Messina from 2018 to 2022 and the mayor of Taormina since 2023. He was also the mayor of Fiumedinisi, his hometown, from 2003 to 2011 and of Santa Teresa di Riva from 2012 to 2017.

Piazza Grande is a social-democratic and progressive faction within the Democratic Party (PD), a political party in Italy. Its leader is Nicola Zingaretti, President of Lazio region from 2013 to 2022 and former leader of the PD. Vito Bardi is an Italian general and politician. He is serving as the 9th and incumbent president of Basilicata since 16 April 2019. Bardi joined the Guardia di Finanza in 1970. He was promoted colonel on 31 December 1995 and later army corps general in 2009. He served as deputy general commander of the Guardia di Finanza from 5 September 2013 to 4 September 2014.
