The All India Trinamool Congress party won the election defeating CPI(M) led Left Front with an overwhelming majority. [1] The sitting Mayor of Siliguri Ashok Bhattacharya lost his ward to TMC candidate Alam Khan by 482 votes. After the result, Goutam Deb became the new Mayor. [2]

He also served as the Minister of North Bengal Development, a newly formed department in 2011 by Mamata Banerjee, the first woman Chief Minister of West Bengal. He was a Member of Legislative Assembly from Dabgram-Phulbari Assembly Constituency two times. Presently he is serving as Mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation.

Legislative Assembly election was held in 2016 for the 294 seats of the Vidhan Sabha in the state of West Bengal in India. The All India Trinamool Congress under Mamata Banerjee won 211 seats, and thus was reelected with an enhanced majority. Like in the 2011 election, the poll was held in six phases, with the first phase divided into two days. The first phase was held in Naxalite-Maoist affected Red corridor areas with two polling dates: 4 April and 11 April. The other phases were held on 17, 21, 25, 30 April and 5 May. The result of the election was declared on 19 May.

The Left Front is an alliance of left-wing political parties in the Indian state of West Bengal. Municipal elections was held in West Bengal on 27 February 2022 to elect members of all 108 municipalities in the state. The election to four remaining wards were held in 26 June.
