Goutam Deb (born 6 January 1957) [2] is an Indian Politician currently serving as the Mayor [3] of Siliguri Municipal Corporation. He was a Cabinet Minister of Department of Tourism in the Government of West Bengal from 2016 to 2021. He also served as the Minister of North Bengal Development,a newly formed department in 2011 by Mamata Banerjee,the first woman Chief Minister of West Bengal. He was a Member of Legislative Assembly from Dabgram-Phulbari Assembly Constituency two times. Presently he is serving as Mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation and Observer of Jalpaiguri District Trinamool Congress Committee.
Goutam Deb did his schooling from Siliguri Boys' High School and thereafter he graduated from Siliguri College [4] with B.A. followed by LL.B. Degree from Surendranath Law College under University of Calcutta.
He enrolled as an advocate at the Siliguri Bar in 1982. His father,Late Tejendra Binod Deb,was also a lawyer and Central Government Standing Counsel at the Calcutta High Court from 1971 to 1988.
He was Panel Counsel and Standing Counsel for the Indian Railways for Darjeeling,Jalpaiguri,Cooch Behar and West Dinajpur District Courts and Arbitrations from 1986 to 1995. His elder brother was the State Advocate General of Sikkim and also acted as Judge in Guwahati,Orissa and Sikkim High Court. He also acted as Acting Chief Justice of Hon’ble High Court of Sikkim for a while.
His elder brother,Late Anup Deb [5] was Acting Chief Justice of Hon’ble High Court of Sikkim.
His wife is a social worker and elected as Councillor from Ward No. 17,Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
His son Saswata Deb studied in St. Xavier's Collegiate School. He is currently pursuing Computer Science and Engineering from VIT Bhopal. His daughter Dr. Sreya Deb obtained her M.B.B.S. degree from Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital and is currently pursuing her MD degree from St. Johns Medical College,Bengaluru.
Siliguri,also known as Shiliguri,is a major tier-II city in West Bengal. It forms "Twin Cities" with the neighbouring district capital of Jalpaiguri. The city spans areas of the Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts in the Indian state of West Bengal. Known as the "Gateway of Northeast India",Siliguri is popular for three Ts:tea,timber and tourism. It is the largest and the busiest railway junction of northern Bengal. This junction is largest among the railway stations which serve the city of Siliguri,the largest metropolis of the North Bengal. The other stations are- Siliguri Junction,Gulma,Bagdogra,Matigara,Rangapani and Siliguri Town. New Jalpaiguri junction ranked 10th cleanest railway station in India in 2016 survey and came among the top 100 booking stations of Indian railway. New Jalpaiguri,as a railway station serves as the entry point to North Bengal,Sikkim,other countries like Nepal,Bhutan,Bangladesh and the seven northeastern states. New Jalpaiguri Junction acts as a connecting base of railways for the northeastern states to the Indian mainland.
Jalpaiguri is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the headquarters of the Jalpaiguri district as well as of the Jalpaiguri division of West Bengal,covering the jurisdiction of the five districts of North Bengal. The city is located on the banks of the Teesta River which is the second largest river in West Bengal after the Ganges,on the foothills of the Himalayas. The city is home to the circuit bench of the Kolkata High Court,the other seat being at Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The University of North Bengal is a public state university in the North Bengal region of West Bengal,India. Its main campus is located in Raja Rammohanpur,Siliguri,Darjeeling district,in the Indian state of West Bengal. Sevoke is a small town near Siliguri in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal state of India near the border with Sikkim state. Situated in Dooars,Sevoke lies on the bank of River Teesta and has two bridges −namely Coronation Bridge and Sevoke Railway Bridge over it. Indian Army and Border Security Force camps are located in the area. The Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in this area. National Highway NH10 passes through the town and connects Sevoke town to Gangtok and Siliguri. National Highway 17 originates from Sevoke near Coronation Bridge and terminates in Guwahati.

Sivok railway station is a junction railway station in Darjeeling district,West Bengal. Its code is SVQ. The station serves Sevoke town. The station consists of two platforms. The station lies on New Jalpaiguri–Siliguri–New Mal Junction–Hasimara–Alipurduar Junction route under Alipurduar division of Northeast Frontier Railway. It is also the originating point of the Sevoke-Rangpo Railway Line which is under construction. This railway station is a scenic railway station as it falls under Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary just ahead of Sevoke Railway Bridge over river Teesta.

The Tenzing Norgay Central Bus Terminus is one of the largest and most important bus terminals in North Bengal. It is located on Hill Cart Road,Siliguri,District Darjeeling,adjacent to the Siliguri Junction railway station,about 6 kilometers from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. Both state owned North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) buses and private buses ply from here. The terminus is named after Nepali mountaineer Tenzing Norgay who was a resident of the Darjeeling District.
The P.C. Mittal Memorial Bus Terminus is a bus terminal located on Sevoke Road,Siliguri,District Darjeeling. It is from 5.4 km (3.4 mi) from Siliguri Junction railway station and about 8.2 km (5.1 mi) from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. Both State owned North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) buses and private buses ply from here. Some bus routes may be shifted to this terminal to reduce traffic congestion. The Terminus is named after P.C. Mittal,a social worker and a businessman,who was a resident of the Darjeeling District.
Sikha Chatterjee is an Indian politician from Bharatiya Janata Party. In May 2021,she was elected as a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Dabgram-Phulbari constituency in Jalpaiguri district. She defeated Trinamool Congress heavyweight and Transport Minister of West Bengal Goutam Deb with the margin of 27,593 votes. She was the opposition leader of Rajganj Panchayat Sammittee. She was former leader of Trinamool Congress.
