The 2022 World Masters (officially referred to as the 2022 Winmau World Masters [2] ) was the 47th edition of the World Masters, organised by the World Darts Federation. It was held at the De Bonte Wever in Assen, Netherlands. [3]
John O'Shea who won the previous men's tournament was absent from the event, having switched to the Professional Darts Corporation in January 2022. Lisa Ashton as three-time champion did not defend her title.

Martin Adams is an English professional darts player who plays in World Darts Federation (WDF) events. Nicknamed "Wolfie", he is a three-time BDO World Champion and three-time World Masters champion. He represents Cambridgeshire at county darts level and was the captain of England from 1993 to 2013, the longest any player has held that role. From his debut in 1994, Adams made a record 25 consecutive World Championship appearances, before failing to qualify for the first time in 2019. Adams was diagnosed with prostate cancer in April 2016, but by the end of the year he was given the all-clear. As well as playing, he also acted as a regular pundit and commentator for televised coverage of BDO events.
The World Masters is one of the longest-running and most prestigious of the BDO/WDF tournaments, which began in 1974. The tournament was originally sponsored by Phonogram before changing its sponsor in 1975 to darts board manufacturer, Winmau. The World Masters was originally contested as the best of 5 legs before later transitioning to the set format.
John Michael Walton is an English professional darts player currently playing in World Darts Federation (WDF) events. He is best known for winning the 2001 BDO World Darts Championship. He adopted the nickname John Boy and used the song "Cotton Eye Joe" by Rednex as his walk-on theme.
Tony O'Shea is an English professional darts player. His squat figure has resulted in the nickname "Silverback". O'Shea has reached the finals of seven British Darts Organisation (BDO) major darts tournaments, but to date has never won one. He also acted as a regular commentator for televised BDO coverage.
Scott Waites is an English professional darts player who plays in tournaments of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). He is a two-time BDO World Darts Champion having won the 2013 tournament and 2016 tournament. He is also a former Winmau World Masters champion, WDF World Cup singles' champion, Zuiderduin Masters champion. He also won the 2010 Grand Slam of Darts, becoming the only BDO representative to win the event.
Martin Phillips is a Welsh former professional darts player who competed in the British Darts Organisation (BDO). He won the 2014 World Masters championship.
Ross Montgomery, nicknamed The Boss, is a Scottish professional darts player who played in World Darts Federation (WDF) tournaments and as of January 14th 2022 now plays on the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Montgomery also played American football in his native Scotland, having spent eleven years with Glasgow Diamonds. He was forced to retire through injury and took up the game of darts instead.
Mark Barilli is a Scottish darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He is well known for his throwing style where he changes the speed of his throw from fast to slow alternatively, and also for attempting outrageous outshots including one occasion where he attempted to check out 120 with 3 double 20s in a competitive match. Along with Co Stompé, he is also notable for playing competitive darts in a long-sleeved shirt.
Danny Noppert is a Dutch professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He is a former BDO World Darts Championship finalist, as well as being a Finder Darts Masters champion in 2017, before switching to the PDC in 2018, where he won the 2022 UK Open.
Andy Baetens is a Belgian professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He is the reigning 2023 WDF World Darts champion, becoming the first Belgian player to win a world title. Baetens is also a four-time winner of the Czech Open and bronze medalist of the WDF Europe Cup. In the period from May 2023 to January 2024, he was the leader of the World Darts Federation men's ranking.
Ricardo Pietreczko, nicknamed "Pikachu", is a German professional darts player who currently plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He is a German Champion and bronze medalist of the WDF World Cup.
The 2018 Winmau World Masters was a major tournament on the BDO/WDF calendar for 2018. It took place from 3–7 October at the Bridlington Spa Hall, which hosted the stage element of the event for the second time since 2009.
Beau Greaves is an English darts player who plays in World Darts Federation (WDF) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. She is the back-to-back two-time ladies' world champion having won the 2022 WDF World Darts Championship and 2023 WDF World Darts Championship.
