Monmouth University is a private university in West Long Branch, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Founded in 1933 as Monmouth Junior College, it became Monmouth College in 1956 and Monmouth University in 1995 after receiving its charter. It enrolls about 4,400 full-time and 260 part-time undergraduate and 1,750 graduate students and employs 302 full-time faculty members.
The Coastal Athletic Association (CAA), formerly the ECAC South Conference and the Colonial Athletic Association, is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's Division I whose full members are located in East Coast states, from Massachusetts to South Carolina. Most of its members are public universities, and the conference is headquartered in Richmond. The CAA was historically a Southern conference until the addition of four schools in the Northeastern United States after the turn of the 21st century, which added geographic balance to the conference.

The Monmouth Hawks refer to the 23 sports teams representing Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The Hawks compete in the NCAA Division I and are members of the Coastal Athletic Association, joining on July 1, 2022. The football team became an FCS Independent for the 2013 season, and moved to the Big South Conference on July 1, 2014. The women's bowling program was a charter member of the Southland Bowling League, a single-sport conference formed in January 2015, but moved that sport to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference after the 2017–18 season, and returned to the Northeast Conference, in which Monmouth had been a full member from 1985 to 2013, as a single-sport member for 2024–25 and beyond.
The Monmouth Hawks football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the Monmouth University located in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the upcoming 2022 season, the Hawks compete in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The school's first football team was fielded in 1993. The team plays its home games at the 4,200 seat Kessler Field. They are coached by Kevin Callahan.
The 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship was the thirty-first annual single-elimination tournament to determine the national championship for National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I women's college lacrosse. The tournament began with first-round play on May 12, and concluded with the championship game played at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium of Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York, on May 27, 2012. The Northwestern Wildcats were the 2012 NCAA Tournament champions.
The Monmouth Hawks softball team represents Monmouth University in NCAA Division I college softball. The team participates in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA). From 1984 until 2013, the team was a member of the Northeast Conference (NEC). From 2014 until 2022, the team was a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The Hawks are currently led by head coach Shannon Salsburg. The team plays its home games at Monmouth University Softball Park which is located on the college's campus.
The 2017 Maine Black Bears football team represented the University of Maine in the 2017 NCAA Division I FCS football season. They were led by second-year head coach Joe Harasymiak and played their home games at Alfond Stadium. They were a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. Maine initially had a game scheduled on September 30 against Central Florida but that game was canceled on September 14 in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. They finished the season 4–6, 3–5 in CAA play to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place.
The 2019 James Madison Dukes football team represented James Madison University during the 2019 NCAA Division I FCS football season. They were led by first-year head coach Curt Cignetti and played their home games at Bridgeforth Stadium. They competed as a member of CAA Football. They finished the season 14–2, 8–0 in CAA play to be CAA champions. They received the CAA's automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs where they defeated Monmouth, Northern Iowa, and Weber State to advance to the FCS National Championship Game where they lost to North Dakota State.
The 2021 Monmouth Hawks football team represented the Monmouth University during the 2021 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Hawks played their home games at the Kessler Stadium in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The team was coached by twenty-ninth-year head coach Kevin Callahan.
The 2022 Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens football team represented the University of Delaware as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) during the 2022 NCAA Division I FCS football season. They were led by first-year head coach Ryan Carty and played their home games at Delaware Stadium in Newark, Delaware.
The 2022 Rhode Island Rams football team represented the University of Rhode Island as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) during the 2022 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Rams, led by ninth-year head coach Jim Fleming, played their home games at Meade Stadium.
The 2022 William & Mary Tribe football team represented the College of William & Mary as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) during the 2022 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Tribe, led by fourth-year head coach Mike London, played their home games at Zable Stadium. By finishing 7–1 in regular season CAA games, the Tribe tied with New Hampshire as conference co-champions. They went 6–0 on the road in the regular season for the first time in program history. William & Mary earned the FCS playoffs automatic bid. They made it to the quarterfinals before losing 55–7 to the #3 team in the nation, Montana State. The 11 wins tied a school record previously set twice, in 2004 and 2009.
The 2023 Florida Atlantic Owls football team represented Florida Atlantic University in the 2023 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Owls played their home games at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida, and competed in their first season as members of the American Athletic Conference (AAC). They were led by first-year head coach Tom Herman.
The 2022–23 Monmouth Hawks men's basketball team represented Monmouth University in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Hawks, led by twelfth-year head coach King Rice, played their home games at OceanFirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, New Jersey, as first-year members of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). They finished the season 7–26, and 5–13 in CAA play to finish in 13th place.
The 2023 Albany Great Danes football team represented University at Albany, SUNY as a member of Coastal Athletic Association Football Conference (CAA), during the 2023 NCAA Division I FCS football season. Led by tenth-year head coach Greg Gattuso, the Great Danes played home games at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium in Albany, New York.
The 2024 Bryant Bulldogs football team represents Bryant University as a member of the Coastal Athletic Association Football Conference during the 2024 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Bulldogs are led by sixth-year head coach Chris Merritt and play their home games at Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
